Yes, don’t want them to attack me, and don’t want to scare or hurt them. But they did not seem to bother about me joining them in the same hang wind they were using to soar for prey

Maybe they were sizing up your drone as a potential meal

Not unlikely, but seems they concluded it wasn't eatable. After the closest pass, I dived for security over the cliff - a manouver that my e.g. Mavic is not able to do

Great place to fly and dive. And a very cool encounter!
