Is it normal to lose signal with my remote when flying amongst tall concrete buildings but only 50 meters away? My controller is constantly losing signal and saying to adjust antenna (no antenna to adjust with new RC). Any advice greatly appreciated. Thx

It may not be to you liking or what you sought but it is true.

Of course, the DJI RC has antennas, they are just not attached to the outside!

This note means that you should or must align the controller in the direction of the drone...

Of course, flying somewhere else means that you should test all your equipment somewhere else to be sure that there is no real defect...

sure but i would imagine there is a viable solution as these drones are flown between buildings all the time.

There's a huge variation in signal reception in urban areas. While 50m isn't a lot, it may be that there's just too much interruption to the path between drone and RC.  Have you compared performance in other, more open areas?

thanks. Yes i have tried open areas and its fine. I just thought perhaps switching transmission to 5.8mhz would improve performance in the city due to so much interference but that didnt help at all.

Well generally speaking, the higher the frequency of transmission, (erp being equal) the less far is the propagation distance under normal conditions.

Do you have open line of site between the controller and the drone or is there a structure in the way.

Not really, any RC radio signal is going to struggle with 2 large cement buildings breaking the LOS.

FYI... Also, this is why FM radio masts are so darn high with many hundreds or thousands of watts.
Your wee RC signal being in CE mode only has sommat like 0.04w** and a ground-level antenna, heck, i don't even think FCC mode will help you any in this situation. What will help is the 4g dongle but that is not available to outside China at present.

You may be able to improve the signal a little depending on how youre holding the RC, make sure the top where the antennas are is pointing spot on at the drone, use the Flight Attitude Radar (bottom left corner) to help with this, when the RC indicator is green, the alignment is good.

Sadly, i highly doubt that the last paragraph will help you in your situation

**i guessed at the power as i cannot remember but its something like that, may have the decimal or a 0 in the wrong place, someone will correct me.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the trouble. Kindly please download the DJI Assistant 2 software using the link below and update/refresh the firmware of both aircraft and your DJI RC then check if the issue persists. You may bring your unit to a different location without any possible interference to have a test flight and check if you still experience the said issue. I will also post an image below regarding how to properly place the antenna of your RC. Please keep us posted. Thank you.

This model is known for not being able to handle signal interference very well. There is no solution, you will have to get another model to be able to fly at that location.

Thank you - that’s what I was afraid of, the Mavic 3 is much better for transmission?

We can only refresh the firmware using the DJI Assistant 2 software via PC or Mac, MetaFlexa. Please keep us posted on the result. You may download the software using the link below. Thank you for your understanding.

No drone has a signal that will penetrate concrete buildings.
You need a clear, unobstructed line of sight between the drone and controller.

Why do you insist on copying one of the 1st replies? You have a bad habit of doing this...

We need to crack it, let the coffee bring.
And so, it is dangerous, it will accumulate status, and it will do something for beginners

Of course, your wallet will kill itself, at the price of 8700 USD...but you will have a Mesh network and no interference )))))
