Up to now, I'd hesitated to check out the waterproof performance of the camera.Dangling it on the magnetic lanyard, I decided to try it out.I picked a quiet spot by the river, but soon got a spectator.

How did it perform?

Well, the video shows a little of the action
And it's still working fine. So I conclude that it is waterproof to a depth of one foot, at least

Did you have it on a tripod to do that?

No I was dangling it on the magnetic lanyard.  The duck came over out of curiosity, but I had nothing to feed it, so it went off in a huff.

I hope it's a secure connection to the lanyard.

Well it seems pretty reliable. And had it dropped off, I would have only had a wet arm up to the elbow to retrieve it

That's a little backwater to the side of the weir. I thought it worth the risk

Dunking it is not something I'll be doing regularly - if ever again.  Just wanted to satisfy my curiosity.
And now I know it should be OK in the rain

Seems to perform quite well underwater in that short video Mr. B.  The underwater view was extremely clear.  No doubt the spectator was expecting a handout.

Ha ha. Yes. He came right up to me as if to say "What have you brought me?"  After a few moments he went off looking disgusted that I had nothing.

You could maybe use one to inspect the hull of your boat
It's supposed to be waterproof to a depth of 10 metres.

He's probably used to people feeding him all the time and was disappointed that you didn't follow suit.  Oh well, he will just have to fend for himself.

I'd considered one but when they first came out I kept reading about overheating issues.  After physical therapy is complete and I can dive again I'll start looking at a camera to use during dives.  I'm still considering an underwater drone but I'm not sold on that yet.

I myself am usually a bit timid about putting electronics underwater even when they're promised to be waterproof. Even when I got the water-proof case for the Pocket 2, I was a bit neurotic about taking it into the pool, after hearing about some accidents that led to a soaked Osmo Pocket or Pocket 2. But glad to see your Action 2 kept the promise

Also, loved the guest star of your video

Thanks. No ill effects to the Action 2 after its dunking, it seems.  The cameo appearance by Mr.Drake was unexpected. He was most put out when he got nothing to eat

The coastal waters of the UK are too cold to encourage Scuba diving - at least for me

Just a quick note of caution for you - the Action 2 is not impervious to salt water.  But fresh water seems ok.  I posted about this a while back.  Optimally using a tested waterproof case is best - even if some optical quality is compromised.

To this end we did add a glass stick on lens protector.  As once scratched past the refresh - the lens cannot be easily replaced without substantial cost.

Thanks for those observations.  I'm unlikely to repeat the test, either in fresh or salt water. I only did it out of curiosity whilst it's still in warranty.  It's reassuring to be able to chance using it in the rain, for example.
The tip about the lens protector is well received.

Nice one there! My first time I also did not have a steady picture because I thethered it on some nice thick fishing line. Needless to say the wave action, however slight, moved the camera around.
I now use a selfie stick which gives much more control when standing on the pier.
I have immursed mine in sea water a few times now with no ill effects, mainly because I wash it off with fresh running water.

Now for some rainy day footage.....

I hear you.  I have two wet suits - one for summer type weather and the other is heavier for cool weather.  With the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico nearby I guess I have a couple of nice areas to dive.  Hopefully,  by late April or early May I'll be making bubbles in the deep water again.

My goal is to beat the Physical Therapist timeline by at least a week or two without overdoing it.  I'm getting strength back and range of motion is increasing so I know I'm making good progress.
