It used to be a RAF airbase in WW2.     The little group of three buildings just behind the conveyer was used for helicopter servicing, but I dont know if it still is.

They make great habitat for wildlife once nature takes over.

Looking on the companies website they have an action plan to bring back a forest to that area and will maintain the site once restored for at least 5 years.   So thats promising.

Ahh, that's a great clue as to why it is so large.  Air Force bases take lots and lots of room.  Nice that it is being repurposed into something useful.

I actually think it's sad,  those old RAF sites were great for learner drivers,  especially those that cant drive on the roads yet.

The company has committed to restoring the site when they are finished and will be planting forests etc there.

That would have been a good use for them also and no doubt plenty of long runways to practice driving on.  

There was an old Naval Air Station that they closed in the late 90s and it was deeded to the county it was located in.  They sold parts of it.  The person that bought the runway portion uses it to host drag races.  Probably not the best use but since the runways were super long it works out for his use.

Several here were sold off and used for private run race tracks,  and in Denmark I see Hendrik goes to one that is treated like a park.

I guess that is one way to repurpose the old air fields.  I did notice that Hendrik had a favorite spot.

Hendriks one looked really cool.   He also used it for range tests.

Okay, now you got me really curious.  I'll have to search his channel late this afternoon.  Grandson is racing his gokart today so I want to go watch that but then I'm free the rest of the afternoon so I'll give it a look then.

I remember that video.  How could I forget the intro and the tin hat.    That must have been quite a large air force base at one time.  Even the taxiways are wide.
