I just got the FPV today. Video settings are set to MP4 but when trying to view the recorded video files it says it requires HEVC Video Extension, which is a paid ext. Is it required to buy a program to view the footage or am I missing something?

Maybe you recorded in H.265 rather than H.264.  So you need the HVEC codec?

Hi, mikestewart. Thanks for reaching out. Blériot53 is right. It's more likely that the coding format was set to H.265, so please double-check. You may go to Goggles' Menu to confirm. Go to Settings>Camera>Advanced Camera Settings>Video Coding Format.
Alternatively, you may keep the current format you have and use a recommended player to preview the videos. Here is the list of recommended players:
Player software:
Windows: potplayer
Linux: vlc
Mac: vlc
Andriod: nplayer, mxplayer, vlc, xplayer
