Hi,

Recently a remote pilot experienced a fast autolanding in a RTH.
Discussions etc....

So i decided to test flight my own MINI3PRO, to get data for normal RTH autolandings.
Plus i autolanded in front and behind a stone wall, see the video for this.

In general about autolanding after RTH (or autolanding if selected on the screen)

  • In RTH, flying at 48 meters (RTH height setting at 31), flying towards home ofcourse.
  • Above HP descend starts with rate of descend at 3 m/s.
  • At 20 meters baro height down speed from 3 to 1, 1 m/s at Infra Red sensor height (IRH) of approx 3 meter, followed by further slowing down.
  • At 2 IRH down speed 0.1 m/s.
  • At this point the cam (if pitch down) will return to zero pitch angle; for 90 down to 0 ; in almost 1 second.
  • Continue last height to touch down with speed of 0.1 m/s. (so last records shows only 0.0 or 0.1)

See my chart of an example flown in this test flight.  Large chart is the landing as in the video.
[ colomn with 11!1  most right colums = Infra Red sensor height ]

Tested to autoland near an obstacle (OA on ofcourse), distance drone > object about 20 to 30 cm.
Many time my MINI3PRO and MA2 refused to land, seeing the obstacle an unsafe area prompt on the screen. But both drones did just hover really close to that object.
Few times object was not seen properly (i guess) as the drone did finish the autolanding. (and again not steering away from the object)

cheers

Not related to the thread but judging by the sound, that's a Tiger 800... Am I correct?

Thanks, JJB*, that certainly shows what I at least have been saying from my experience with the Mini 3 Pro and my P4P and that is compared to Matey's landing;

1) it does slow down further
2) the cam auto return to 0º is sooner.

One thing that i wasn't certain about is that

1) the wall would have made no difference.

In that hard landing thread, Matey's descent was far too fast and the cam returned to 0º too late.

The question now is, what caused matey's hard landing?

PS, that was far too windy for my liking, especially when testing next to an object, you have some large stones lol

I would have been really anxious, trying to land so close to that fence, and in fairly windy conditions. So thanks for the testing.

well, keep good eye on the drone and fingers in the controls   ready for max RC input away from the obstacle!

I prefer to land in wide-open spaces, or to hand catch when over rough terrain

Guess we all know why i did not apolagize    ;-)

Yes, we will not know why Matey`s drone landing was too fast, wonder if DJI could find anything in DAT logs.

But lesson learned, i think for readers of this Matey`s post, don`t trust too much on autolandings.
Find nice bigger free area to perforn an autolanding, or in confined spaces ; cancel last part and manually land your drone.

same here, or land craft manually facing away from me in confined area.

but for testing purposes, not a problem to do.

Hi Burt,

I had the 800 XCx for a couple of years, and that engine sound it is unique... It purrs like a kitten from 1000 to 10000rpm for ever... One of the most successful engine ever made by Triumph...

Very popular here in Australia as well...

Guess we all know why i did not apologize

Thats why I said to him that it should be the other way round

It would be interesting to find out what the cause was.
