Hi All! Trying to understand what happened to my Mini 2. I am a new-ish drone operator and it flew away on me last weekend.

I think something went wrong with the altitude sensor and it somehow thought it was at negative altitude and attempted to correct itself.

If you you looked at these logs, what would you say?

Hi,

Wow, what a unfortunately flight.

Did you recover your MINI2 in kind of good shape?

Just after your manual takeoff you applied 2 times for very short moment CSC   why ?
But has noting to do with the rest of this flight.

At 18s in flight, data shows flying at 0.5 meter height, Down Stick ; so into ForcedLanding.
From that moment data goes weird, baro height into negative numbers and vertical speed showing max 80 m/s down (250 feet per second....)  uh ?

If your MINI2 is flyable, calibrate the IMU and see what happens in the next flight.

Is the MINI2 is new ! than claim a warranty issue to DJI

cheers

Hi,

Wow, what a unfortunately flight.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply!

I have not been able to recover the drone unfortunately. Reached out to DJI already and they said that the drone is out of its warranty period.

I applied CSC because the drone started to gain altitude and drift without my input, so I was trying to get it back to the ground and not fly to an unsafe altitude.

Yuck.
Just a point, the emergency motor stop (CSC) has two setting options, “Emergency Only” & “Anytime”.
A CSC with the option set to “Emergency Only” will, in a 'normal' flight, NOT stop the motors. All that happens is that the drone descends in a helix, the drone 'itself' must think it has suffered an emergency in order for the CSC to stop the motors and I doubt the drone 'thought' your flight had encountered any emergency.

With the option set to “Anytime” a CSC will stop the motors but ONLY AFTER the CSC position has been held for around 1.7 seconds.
"Anytime" has, IMO,  too short a delay period to be safe for it to be used as the normal setting and “Emergency Only” 'does nothing' 'useful' but is safer than "Antime". It is too easy to trigger an accidental mid air shut down if "Anytime" is the chosen option.

How high do you think it went?

Thank you - that's good to know! I've never had to issue a CSC mid-flight before so this is all new to me.

Not quite sure. Something was up with IMU Altitude reporting, which indicated Negative 1482 ft in the logs at last reading.

I think that's why it automatically shot up. Something went wrong with the IMU sensor and, due to low battery, return to home was initiated, which was set at 50m.

So the Mini 2 attempted to "climb" from its negative altitude to 50m, but the higher it climbed, the more negative its altitude reported.

This is why I issued a CSC to get it to come back down.

oke, guess you had a look at the last position, see the chart.

GPS speed 9.6 m/s, moving in the direction 110...
Lost connection in ATTI mode, drone will land after short moment.
Depends at the height it was flying to guess where it has landed.
Hope you can find your MNI2.

cheers

Thanks so much! I had not specifically talked to the people at that house but I will.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. We're deeply sorry to know about this unfortunate incident that happened in your unit. As you mentioned that you already contacted our team to check the warranty period of the unit and it seems that the unit is no longer under warranty, our apologies but we can no longer process fly away cases to a product that is already passed its warranty period. You may contact our team back once you manage to find your unit so we can process a repair case for you. Thank you for your understanding and support.
