Checking out the sub station....


Ive passed this sub station many times and often they are digging the place up due to power cuts,  but until now Ive never seen inside.   


Its not what I was expecting.

Remarkable top down shot DA.    Did you experience any signal interference flying near the sub station?  Strange to see it located so close to houses.  Here, for safety reasons, power sub stations have a minimum stand-off distance from houses or businesses which is about 25 times further than the one in your shot.

Great shot. It's quite large for a substation, but looks neat and tidy.  Not sure I'd want to live so close to it though, as those houses appear.

No signal issues at all.   

Most sub stations here are close to properties,  nothing unusual about it, this one is a little bigger than the average though,  I'll see if I can get a shot of a more normal one.

Its the largest one Ive seen round here, usually they are smaller for sure, and I agree,  I would not want to live there either.

On one of my walks, the path leads between a sub-station and a pair of semi-detached houses in a secluded spot.  You can hear the hum from the sub-station 200 yards away.  It must drive the homeowners crazy when they're outside. And possibly audible indoors too.

Some say that they get used to sounds like that,  but Im not one of them.

I was about 200ft above it so maybe thats why.   Although since the last update I "feel" the controller has a bit more power.    I flew the other day low out over the water and the bars were not dropping off like they would normally.

Yes. They took it back to the church and there was a crowd there to view it.
They mounted it on a pedestal in the churchyard.  I guess the installation on the tower took place later.

I seem to recall reading they had to raise extra funds to repair the roof and refit it.

Since the last DJI RC update Im convinced I have a better quality signal,     I tried as little test and flew out low over the water and got to the point where I would have never got before at that height.

That sounds great.  I wonder if DJI tweaked something in the FW to give it a small boost in signal strength.

For all I know it could just be the weather,  but it's been consistently better for a couple of days now.

I flew the same route this morning and felt the signal wasnt quite as strong as the last couple of days but again,  it's hard to measure.

Could just be a placebo effect or the real thing.  I'm just glad that I'm able to use the FCC version and keep up the signal strength.

Yeah, I still think it is a shame that CE requires a much lower signal requirement.  Although with all the hacks available I'm sure many pilots are using FCC in CC countries and I can't really blame them.
