A row of ancient and massive oak trees at Strines are being felled.
Judging by the size, they're well over a century old.
Spotted initially by the Mini3Pro, I took a closer look with the Action2.

What a shame to see those big old beautiful oaks come down.  They do look quite old.

I'm not sure of the reason. The interiors don't look diseased.

When looking close at where they were cut you can't see anything that looks bad and the rings do indicate they were quite old.  I have seen a few old oaks that were diseased and the insides were getting hollow and were doomed to fall down soon so they had to be felled.

The wood looks sound, so maybe they're been sold for lumber.

Could well be.  I guess I'm somewhat of a "tree hugger".  If I have to cut down a tree on my extensive property I plant two back.  Always good for the environment to do that.

A laudable act indeed Here in the UK, there are tracts of land where, when you die, your family can bury your cremated ashes and plant a tree on top.
That's how Mrs.B and I will end up, and the kids are fine with that.

There was no-one working there. My younger daughter would love it. She's into wood-turning and carving.

I scored a few pieces of lilac tree the other day,  hoping that it wont take long to be useable as the tree looked pretty dead.     I just took some small bits that I could carry that I may turn in to pens.

No2 daughter has not done much recently due to pressure of work. She displays at craft fairs occasionally.

I'd never heard of that but it is quite the interesting alternative to traditional burials.

That should occupy you for a while on a rainy or windy day.
It was blowing a gale when I took Mrs.B to the hairdressers, so no flying for me while I waited for her.
Went to the car wash instead.

Finding a witticism in a language other than your own is commendable
And if you've seen my other post about the cricket field - did you know that one way that the batsman may be got out  is for him to be "Stumped"  ?

Interesting felling technique but at least it didn't take out the fence.

I didn't see the actual felling, Bruce. I was quite surprised to see the trees lying in the field as  I passed.

I'd rather prefer the comic/cartoon/movie/game variety of Bat-man

Not too keen on that either

I do have to admit I don't always know which word to use for the sporting accessories used in English when comparing between different types of sports. In Finnish, we tend to use pretty much the one word for all of them, with possibly the name of the sport in front of them for differentiation. But you have all the paddles, sticks, rackets, clubs and what you have. Enough to confuse me about it

Or there's GOLF, if you want to hit a  ball with a CLUB.   Are you confused yet?

I did have a small premonition of that one, I am a bit more familiar with golf than I am with cricket (though 99% of what I have learnt from it is through video game versions of the sport, and not probably all of that applies directly to real life )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIeu7_-iwdw

While not exactly the thought I was chasing (for instance, "the ball" meaning a dance party in my example), I do have to admit that I enjoyed watching the clip you embedded here. Top Gear was very fun to watch during the Clarkson-May-Hammond days.

As a bonus, when you asked if I was confused about that golf thing. In exchange, I represent to you a small way to make English people confused about the Finnish language:
Here are a couple of short sentences in English and their translations in Finnish.

English                               Finnish
A spruce is on fire          - Kuusi palaa
A spruce returns            - Kuusi palaa
Your moon is on fire     - Kuusi palaa
Your moon returns       - Kuusi palaa
Six of them are on fire - Kuusi palaa
Six of them return        - Kuusi palaa
Number six is on fire   - Kuusi palaa
Number six returns     - Kuusi palaa
Six pieces                       - Kuusi palaa

I hope you enjoyed that short Finnish lesson

My mother and sister are already inhumed that way.

If memory serves me right from a religion class I took so many years ago -

When we die, our bodily elements (hydrogen, carbon, calcium, etc.) return to these basic elements within the earth.  No matter whether you choose a natural burial, embalming, cremation, or so on, your body returns to ‘ash’ and ‘dust’ all the same to enter the cycle of nature yet again.
