I stopped by the local pharmacy to get a prescription refilled.  While waiting I saw this and thought you  might get a kick out of it.  This was not going to be another day in paradise it sounds like.

We needed a little levity at the gun range yesterday.  A new shooter had a misfire and turned around with the pistol in her hand facing people behind her and asked what to do.  First, keep you pistol pointed down range as it could be a delayed misfire.  Second, learn how to clear misfires.  Things were very tense for a few minutes.  Fortunately, one of the guys present was a master gunsmith and was familiar with her pistol and quickly showed her how to clear the misfire.

Could have gone wrong in many ways.  At least everybody present kept cool heads and nobody yelled at her.  No doubt she was totally embarrassed.  Bet she will go over the safety course again for sure.

Yes. She probably got confused and forgot the things she learned but had not really made 2nd nature.

It was only her 2nd trip to the range she said so easy to understand how she had not been practicing that safety tidbit a lot. I guess I was a sympathetic ear as she was talking to me about it afterwards.  I just told her to think about what I was taught in the military.  The barrel of any gun should only point at somebody or something that you plan to kill.  Thinking that way always reminds me to keep the barrel downrange, even when I don't get a misfire.  I think she appreciated me being patient and understanding with her.  Her husband even came over and thanked me.
