The Rocca di Verrua Savoia or Fortezza di Verrua Savoia was probably built between the 10th and 11th centuries, when a document by Otto III of Saxony mentions its existence. The fortification is positioned on a hill on the banks of the Po and still today forms the border between the provinces of Turin and that of Vercelli as, in previous centuries, it formed the division between the Marquisate of Monferrato and the Duchy of Savoy.
