Alone on the Ocean......

Another little fotomas style shot from this mornings flight,    just as I was taking this shot I nearly got wiped out by birds for the third time on this flight,  but this time I managed to capture it and it was an oyster catcher.

Well funny you mention that,  as when I landed I noticed a chunk missing from one of the propellors.

Ouch you were very fortunate to get back in one piece..
IMO Spring time is bad for mamma bird thinking a drone is a pereditor great capture though was it a magpie?

No. that was an Oyster Catcher,   and I was very pleased to get back in one piece.

Yes.   And he kept coming back,    this one just one of 4 times he came at the drone.

Great shot and very cool captures.    No doubt with a long beak like that he can tear up some oysters.  Luckily you only had to replace a couple of props as that could have ended up much worse.

They do just eat oysters,  they will go for any shell fish it seems,    and quite often along the banks ion the water you'll see piles of cockle or mussel shells where they take them to land to eat.

I watched a National Geographic movie on them once and it was really interesting how they go about their day to day business.  The movie also showed a fairly sizeable pile of shells so no doubt they had been very busy.

When I see them normally all they seem to do is eat.

I guess they have to eat a lot considering the small amounts of nourishment they are getting from each shell, muscle, etc.

It's not my favourite of these shots,  but the original was so dull and I was desperate for a daily image.

No drone work - just the Pocket2 and Action2.
