Took a long drive in the bush today, about 135kms from home using dirt roads and tracks to a place called "The Crater", the we headed about another 5kms to the Shearers Quarters.

It is in the Murray Sunset National Park in the Northwest Corner of Victoria, Australia.

Was a lovely day of about 25C, no wind and sunny.
  

Don’t ask why it's called "The Crater” apart from its shape and we can’t find out whether it’s natural or man-made but it’s out there in the middle of no-where.  We are fairly sure it is not a meteorite crater as there is no reference to it being one on the internet.  And no, you are not allowed to drive on it!  I certainly wouldn't, especially if it had been raining, but, there are a lot of idiots out there who can't read.

The “Shearers Quarters” was originally built in the 1930’s for one of the largest pastoral leases in North West Victoria and majorly renovated around 20 years ago are now used as a campsite with the buildings and a camp-ground nearby with a drop toilet, no power or water. Peaceful and serene!

I didn’t go down to it, but think it would be.  There’s a lot of dry salt pans in the general area.

Salt crust and mud underneath. Hence my comment about not driving on it even if it was allowed.

So it could be a salt minibasins then.

Could be. Lots of salt near the surface in places. Limestone and gypsum around too. It’s about 400kms to the nearest major city.
