A high pass at the canal....



Taking a little break from walking the canal,   seemed like a nice time to take a flight along it,  unfortunalty these horrible pylons get in the way,   337ft in the way.

Very nice shot DA.    No doubt those wires carry lots of power through them but definitely a bit of an obstacle to drones, RC planes and kites.

Nicely captured.  There's a string of those all the way up the Longdendale valley, by the reservoirs.

I was surprised of the height.  I climbed to 337ft and I could still see I was facing the lines.   I then checked the os map but to my surprise it didn’t show the height just the pylons presence.

Those are pretty big, for sure.

Thats why I went over the top rather than under then.    In the past Ive walked under these types of lines and they have cut out my 4g and bluetooth connections.

They carry the power over a main road that quite a bit higher than the fields the pylon stands in.   They've just been replacing the cables,  which might have made a good shot but I wouldn't want to distract the workers up there.

Good plan.  I've been around one or two high voltage power lines and no doubt that can cause issues with connections.  I think because of the possibility of hurricanes crossing Florida the majority of the local power lines are underground, however all the main feed lines coming from the electric producers are still above ground to the central hubs and then underground.

There's a big cycle race here today,    we've just had fun trying got get them to move barriers as the roads are closed.  I may try and get a shot of the closed road later.

It could produce some pretty interesting shots of the action.
The Tour de France passed our front door in 2015 - that was memorable.
And every 4 years the Paris-Brest passed by as well.

Sadly I couldnt stay for the action,   we would have been trapped by the road closures until about 7pm,    the shots of the setup though did get a feature on the towns instagram.

HomeDepot and Lowes here still sale a limited few neons.

Yes,  that was the hope.  They only made it to a story which I think expires after 24 hours but Im sure many would have seen it.

Here the short ones are almost impossible to find so you have to use LED versions instead,    but they can have a waiting list to get them,  for my kitchen I had to wait 5 weeks as they had a back log of orders.

They can longer be manufactured here but they are allowed to sell all that are already produced.  I did have to switch out the 3 footers in my garage/storage facility to LED.  They don't seem to be as bright though.

I think it depends,  I swapped one in my kitchen and it was the same as the old one.  I swapped it as the neon tube was melting SHMBO'd chocolate.     I did a full set at the parents as they had a blown bulb we couldnt replace any other way and they turned out to be much much brighter.  

PS are you uptown date on IG?   I posted a couple IR shots recently you might enjoy.

You got it composed great. I think the powerlines kind of add up to it, as they seem to be so straightly vertical in the picture. But have to agree on not really liking the pylon.
