Update 10/15: The app has been released on the App Store. Thank you to beta testers.

We would like to invite a few more users in to our Map Pilot app beta test.

The Map Pilot app is a mapping flight estimation, planning and auto pilot all in one. The user defines the area to be surveyed, selects the level of detail they would like to collect, taps the Pre-Flight Check and Takeoff buttons and the app takes care of the rest. Our goal is to make the process of collecting and processing aerial imagery easy enough for a novice while remaining flexible and accurate enough to be used by professional users.

This app is not for general purpose waypoint or ground station functions.

Up until this point, we have been working with a few hand selected users that have given us some great feedback and helped to guide the addition of new features and use cases. These users were power users of our Maps Made Easy processing platform and people who we had a working relationship with that already had experience with aerial mapping.  After hundreds of flights with no incidents or major issues, we would like to open it up to our next round of 50 beta testers.

Information about the app and beta testing access can be found on the Map Pilot page on the Drones Made Easy site.

Features:
    Multi-Flight Coordination
    Multi-Battery Management
Fullest Possible Use of Each Battery
    Appropriate Camera Triggering
    Overlap Management
    Speed Management
    Shutter Speed Prioritization
    Auto Land and Takeoff
Live Video Preview (large and small)
    Signal Quality Warning
    Line of Sight Indicator
Automatically Captures Elevation Reference Image (Ground Image)
    Natural Landing Adjustment Assistance
    Live Map View
    Mission Saving

Basemap Caching for fully offline operation

This app (and all other 3rd party DJI apps) will require the installation of the development firmware to use it.  The app will not be released publicly until DJI releases public firmware that supports the ground station (waypoint) features.
This app is not for general purpose waypoint or ground station functions.

I assume agricultural use would be a good target?  I can see surveying fields, crops, etc., would be a good use.

I wonder if the FAA is going to consider beta testing as a commercial endeavor?

As of 9/25, we are opening up one last round of beta testing before hopefully releasing the app in the App Store. The newest features include map caching for offline operations, mission saving and the ability to refly missions.

so what is this doing that pix4d cant do?

Work with iOS for Phantom 3s and Inspire 1?
Cache maps for offline?
Save Missions?
Refly Missions?
Allow large, multi battery missions?
Allow shapes other than rectangles?
Take data designed for reprocessing?
Manage line-of-sight to maintain signal strength?
Faster flight with distance triggering?
Accurate elevation reference collection?
Landing assistance?
Low Signal Warning beep?

Dunno... Apparently not much.

your first point is moot seeing as youve already said you have no plans on adding android support, and considering i just got back in from flying 3 separate missions with my p3a with no issues*the craft landed itself fine BTW*.  you may want to do more research on your compitetion

We are glad that you have found an app you like! Stuff that works is good. If you don't need any of the features we offer, we suggest you keep using what works for you.
