She come up with the idea of driving somethere as she doesn't want to sit on a plane,  so it might be something like north Italy or Nice.

Fingers crossed. It does seem to have stopped just now - and the event is 40 miles from here, so who knows

A little sun is trying to poke though here now.   Good luck for later.

That's one heck of a drive. But I'm with her regarding planes and airports. That's become a bad joke now.

We drove from Mayenne to Barcelona one time to catch a cruise around the Med.  But we took 3 days about it, and 3 to drive back afterwards.  Too much for one hit. Even sharing the driving.

We would probably split it into two days,    although Im hoping she goes off the idea.

I think we have something similar here,   although I think yours is probably more strict.  There is also the youth training on tall ships - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tall_Ships_Youth_Trust

I like it and that is some great training available.

No doubt that would have been an exciting opportunity.  Kids today have so much more available to them.  It's just a shame that they spend so much time in front of TVs and electronic devices to get out and to things in the outdoors.

Could you tell that to the kids that were in the middle of the night racing electric scooters.   the stand on ones.

They probably spent the day on electronics and when night rolled around they had energy to burn before they decided to sleep.  Fortunately I don't have to worry about kids in the street here due to living on my own land away from the suburbs.  I just have to put up with that owl that keeps coming back around 1 or 2 in the morning and hooting until I get tired of hearing it and using the air horn on him.

By the way that eagle kite I got seems to have worked wonders with the daytime birds, especially the gulls.

Now thats good news,    I wonder if it would also scare of the local scroats.

That's a good question.  I have to take the kite down at night as there is never enough wind to keep it flying but boy has it made a difference in the daytime.

I went out yesterday in lovely weather, but everywhere was teeming with tourists, and parking was impossible, so I just enjoyed the ride and circled back home.

I thought they were supposed to self launch when the wind picked up.

They will but if the tether line is too long the kite will fall down into the water when there is no wind.  I did order a 2nd one and will keep it tethered on land by my storage/workshop building.

I went to a Drs appointment with my Dad in the morning,     it was worthwhile but wiped out the morning.   But we may have some answers,  then in the afternoon I had a wall to repair.

Thinking about a little trip to Canterbury for the day,  but then I'll be the tourist.

Good luck to your dad, of course.  Can you get a ferry across, or would you have to brave the Dartford crossing to get to Canterbury?  It's many years since we last visited - about 1997 if memory serves.

There's the Woolwich ferry but thats further into London so Dartford would be better,  or there is sometimes a foot ferry from Southend to Kent but that would still involve more public transport.   Driving its about 1 hour 20 minutes which isn't too bad.

Not too bad I guess.
After several horrendous episodes driving both to and from Dover, I vowed to never go anywhere near there again.

Ive been through the tunnel many times,     it used to be really good to just get up and on a whim go to Bruges for lunch but the ticket cost started to get a bit expensive if you didnt book in advance.

Thanks to you for suggesting the bird kit.    It has minimized my time having to pressure wash the dock and deck of my boat for sure.
