No doubt. I would start with the solar panels

I've got a price quote coming from Tesla for a full blown solar kit including batteries, etc.

Hopefully, it will not be super expensive like some of his EVs.

Got quote back in the email this afternoon.  For the Tesla Powerwall 4 battery system fully installed and including federal solar tax credit they quoted $22,750.

Is that with or without solar panels?

And you plan to use the batteries for the night? (when there is no sun)

Yes for that and when we have power outages.  It will also be used to recharge my EV when I finally get one.  At my location we average 259 total days with sun annually so that is plenty for the solar panels.

Do you get money when your solar panels produce more than you use?

Ah ok.
We have some balancing method for now.
So all the energy we 'create' and 'consume' is balanced for one year.
Which is going to change,  but so far it works like that.

Yes and no.
the problem is that you can't really store this surplus in energy (for longer times).
So let's say you produce 90Kwh on a summer day and only use 10.
Here in NL you can 'use' those 80 on a cloudy day, even though the energy company can't store those 80 for when you need them.
So this is costing 'us' taxpayers a lot of money.
they introduced this 'netting' rule to stimulate solar energy, but it leads to a surplus on sunny days (as people install as many panels as they can, not based on their needs)

Thanks for the explanation.  I guess with either system the only "winner" is the power companies.  Fortunately, my power bill is really minimal.  My boat is very energy efficient.

I'm trying to create a smaller bill, solar panels will help in the future (after having the living room renovated, which will also include a new distribution box, which is needed for solar panels)

The good news is that solar panels are becoming better made (as in lasting much longer) and the prices have recently gone down a bit.

That is very good news indeed.
After we get our new switchbox, I will look into solar panels as well.
I need to make some changes to my roof first (remove a window that is right where they should go and cover some wood with zinc because I won't be able to reach them for painting easily after the solar panels are installed).

Sounds like a really good plan.  Also keep in mind that if you load the roof up with solar panels it will put some stress on the roof framework below due to the added weight.

No doubt built much better and stronger than some of the newer ones that are erected in next to no time at all.

The newer homes are substituting metal studs for wood as they are cheaper and supposedly better as termites can't eat them.  But all things considered the older homes were just better constructed.  Proof is most are still standing and the "bones" are basically still in great shape.  Sure you have to do maintenance and apply paint but that is just a part of home ownership I'd say.

So, back from the holiday.
I used the P2 a lot (really loved that one) and made exactly one flight.
So that means a lot of time with the fam. Which was great.

Congrats Peter on getting the Mini 3 Pro and at a discount makes it even a better buy.

I was telling DA that my grandson was ready to move up from the Mini 3 Pro so I ordered him the Air 3.  He has several school projects coming up this year where he will be able to use the Air 3 over the Mini 3 Pro so turned out to be a good time to upgrade him.  He is going to pass the Mini 3 Pro to one of the cousins.
