Sony had a Hindsight feature years and years ago.  So GoPro's version is just a knock off of that.   Could we please get something like that for the Action 3?  Being able to catch a fish taking down my rod and not saving a 30 minute long video to get there is a game changer.  For anyone that doesnt know what hindsight is:  its a feature that makes the camera continualliy record, and when you hit the record button the last 30 seconds BEFORE the button press is saved.

Loop recording is something completely different.  You get a section of time recorded and if you end up going over that time then what you captured at first goes away.  Hindsight saves the previous 30 seconds before the record button is pushed (recording all the time).  I've used loop recording in the past and lost footage because it took to long to get that monster fish in the boat.

What do you think is the better way to capture something that could take up to 2 hours of recording to capture and 30+ minutes of recording after capture?  Hindsight or loop recording?  I think Hindsight is a better option.

Each option has their own use.  Having a Hindsight feature like older Sony cameras and newer GoPro cameras have would be amazing!  Larry Dahlberg's camera crew was  using a hindsight type feature on their Sony cameras to capture his great fishing moments.  This was in the mid 2000's.

I’m not sure why you brought GoPro into it, but on my GoPro, I only use it sparingly because of battery life. I know that the Action 3 goes for longer than a GoPro on one charge, but not sure how much might be shaved off with ‘hindsight’ switched on.
I guess no worse than 'loop' though, but it might depend on how long you are waiting for that giant fish. Awful to lose battery right in the middle.

Did the Sony get a bit warm with 'hindsight' on?

That is understandable as the camera is recording the whole time the feature is active.  Its a feature to catch things that cant be predicted.  Its unusable on a GoPro for me as it overheats.  The Sony doesn't overheat becasue its a GIANT camera.  I think it was in 2012 when the filming was done for Larry's DVD's.

They actually added a hindsight feature called "pre record"!!!  At 4k 30fps I can keep that feature on for over an hour on a battery.  I have not length tested it on external power yet.  It does work.  This has been a game changer for me and has so far worked flawlessly (GoPro had crazy problems when they made their version).

As for Sony.  I have no idea.  It was about 10+ years ago they had this same feature in their very large "shoulder held" cinema cameras.  I knew of several camera crews that used it when they were on boats of other fisherman like Bill Dance and Larry Dahlberg,  It made it easy to capture the fish they catch as it could take hours for one fish to bite.  That reduced post editing time and file size greatly.

for those with actions 3 will have to move to an action for and their recent firmware that added, as mentioned  above   lose profit and sales if they added on. so yeah gopro has  hindsire a few years back Hero 9

Would totally love if they included this as a firmware update for Action 3's. I know it would potentially hurt Action 4 sales from us who want to use this feature but would be a nice gesture of DJI catering to their current customers.
