They have to drive quite a bit for the nearest supermarket. But they don't seem to mind.

No doubt advantages to living close.  Living further out has its advantages also just need to plan trips carefully to get as much done as possible in one trip.

During our holidays we have to drive 30 minutes to the supermarket.
And we are still alive

30 minute drive to the supermarket does provide some family bonding time during the car ride also.

Yeah, it's not my favorite thing for sure.
Although I prefer the roof over the ladder extended to it's full height.
I have a ridge hook, so I can lay a ladder on the roof, which makes that part quite doable. But to get to the ridge on the facade is very scary.
But I think  that is good, hopefully it will prevent me from getting too confident.

To be fair it's not the painless experience it sounds like,    but if there something needing to be doing high and I can train her how to do it.  Them she will have a go for me,  if not I have to bite the bullet and go and do it.
