DJI Lidar Range Finder Installation distance questions

1 It seems the 75mm installation distance is pre-set but the system will default to the last installation distance entered by the user. Any info regarding this?

2 The 75mm installation distance is arbitrary since the  “mounting bracket plus the length of the LiDAR Range Finder” do not necessarily line up with the sensor plane. Any thoughts?

3) Adjusting the installation distance after setting up the lens only leads to inaccuracies. Shouldn’t the installation distance be entered before calibrating the lens?

4) Does setting up with only 2 focus references, 1m and 4m, lead to inaccuracies? There seems to be something of a consensus regarding this fast and simple set-up leading to potential comprimise.



DJI Lidar Range Finder with the Panasonic S1H camera and Panasonic S - series lenses L mount lenses

1 The DJI Lidar controls the autofocus of the Panasonic S-Series Prime lenses used on the Panasonic S1H.  The issue is the focus is inaccurate. (At closer distances in my case.)

2  There is no set-up, so there is no way to adjust the installation distance. Changing the installation distance on the RS3 Lidar screen does (nothing) it does not affect the focus. This maybe the cause of soft the focus at closer distances.

3 The only solution seems to be to physically move the Lidar relative to the camera, but this requires additional hardware. Will there be updates to address these issues?

4 The DJI Lidar Range Finder can be used with manual lenses set-up ont the RS3Pro but without the RS3Pro when the lens motor /Lidar is powered by an external power source. This is amazing!

Is there a way to use the Lidar with the Panasonic S1H and compatible L mount lenses without the RS3Pro. If this is possible, how would it be configured?


C Potential Improvements

The DJI Lidar Range Finder is an impressive system but it could be so much better. A control “box” or app could achieve the following improvements:

1 Allow the option to enter more distance calibration information.

2 Remember more lenses. This could be via SD card, or an app or built-in memory.

3 Make entering or confirming the installation distance the first step.

4 Make entering or confirming the installation distance possible when using the S1H with the L mount lenses. The default distance for Lidar and cold shoe bracket should be 62mm when used on the S1H. This is the distance from the front of the Lidar to the image plane of the camera.
