Mini 3 Pro - Keep it or Upgrade to Air 3?


Some good points for people thinking about the upgrade.

Air 3 beats mini 3 pro any time of the day. In the USA it doesn't matter drones under 250g. It falls in the same groups as bigger drones. So pointless imo. But in other countries where they can only fly drones under 250g. Then they should stick to the mini 3 pro.

I would not agree with it beating the Mini 3 in every way,    If Im hiking I want the smaller lighter drone,    if Im short of cash I want the drone with the cheaper batteries,     If Im outside NA I want a drone I can fly legally in more places.  

Another nice find DA.    Aldryn makes some great points for both drones.  It really depends on each user's needs and the flying requirements of their location.

Air 3 has the following features over mini 3 pro

1. HDR HLG footage in 10bit
2. DLog-M footage in 10bit
3. Omni directional OA system.
4. 3x lens 1x lens (footage matching is no problem at all)
5. 4k 100fps (not sure if it does that in 10bit or only 8bit)
6. Higher take off flying capability at 6000m
7. Waypoints planning with regular video along Cruise control
8. RC 2 has 4 antenna which will have better transmission range in urban environment.
9. Dedicated Night mode for video at ISO 100/12800
10. 4k HDR 60fps
11. Active tracking in 4k 60fps
12 Active tracking in all 4 direction (left/right/backj/front)

Thats true,  but it's still 2.7k and plenty for social media posts.

I did update from the Mini 3 pro to the Air 3, and i must say it is really impressive. Overall i find it a much better flight experience.
The dual camera is amazing.

Only this i am missing is the option to shoot phot in portrait mode.

I don't use it for that, but for panoramic shots. Much quicker with only one row needed.

It does require you to make manual panos, but I like that anyway.

I guess the best upgrade to mini 3 pro would be rumoured mini 4 pro while air 3 is decent upgrade for air 2. If you know what I mean...

I hope that Im wrong but I have a feeling that the mini 4 will have the same camera as the Mini 3 Pro.

But the Occusync 4, Omni directional OA, antenas in front arms again. It looks interesting to me. And is performance of that old camera "poor"?

For me,   Occusync 4 isn't needed,    I dont have any issues with range or penetration with O3.    OA I dont really use.   And I shoot a lot in low light so a better camera would be a priority for me.

I did a  couple of test shots this morning,  now I just need to stitch,  I also did them as AEB.

My preferred method is make to stitch the AEB files in Autopanoand do the AEB merge afterwards.
So I select the layers instead of the final output in Autopano.

Im using Lightroom for convince and speed and it seems to handle the joint process OK,    they even have a setting for it.

I can't compare but they say that Air 3 low light perfomance is a step forward...

Yup.
In between jobs

The second camera is a great addition and overall flight experience is better, but mini pro3 has a lot going for it and portability is one of its best features . You could easily use both for different experiences.

For me the main issue with the Air3 is the weight,   its too restricted here to fly like I can with a <250g drone.
