I have a ton of footage I shot on my osmo action 3 in 4k hdr mode.  Youtube, final cut pro and even my 2021 macbook pro don't recognize it as being hdr footage. I can literally upload a file straight from the camera to youtube and it won't show up as hdr after it finishes processing. Final cut says the color profile is rec.709 which, to my understanding , is SDR. I shoot long hiking videos and I just want to do a simple edit of the timeline of the clips and upload to youtube in 4k HDR. So far I can't figure it out. Nothing recognizes the osmo 3 hdr footage as actually being hdr. I can shoot HDR on my iphone and upload to youtube and it shows up there as HDR, so I know it's posible. Thank you!

Hi Androzs. My TV doesn’t recognise it either. I’m not sure that it’s a true HDR video that the 3 produces. Many on here have assumed it’s HDR but nothing seems to recognise it and kick into HDR mode to play it back.

Furthermore, tools like HandBrake, also report that the 10-bit "HDR" OA3 footage is just SDR.

Osmonauta, I think you have helped me come to the conclusion that it's not actually HDR. Maybe it does some "HDR" processing internally, but the files it spits out are not HDR. Bummer

Thank you for your feedback. The Osmo Action 3 does not use common standards such as HLG and HDR10, so some mobile devices and computer software do not recognize footage shot by the product as HDR footage. The product adopts HDR technology for camera sensors which supports shooting with a high dynamic range and 10-bit color depth, and can effectively restore highlight and shadow details. We appreciate your understanding.

Lol osmonauta. If it doesn't conform to an HDR standard then it isn't HDR I would say. I would also like to know of a device or software that recognizes the footage as HDR? Software especially.

Actually I don't understand. Do you mind elaborating?

It’s their own version of a high dynamic range. Not true HDR where you switch the monitor/tv (mine works in HLG  and HDR10) to full brightness and contrast in order to take advantage of the extra range. The Action footage looks as though it flattens dynamic footage but that’s not HDR!

I agree it's not actually HDR.
