I have a problem that my OA 4 show "SD card writing speed slow". So it only can record for 3-4 seconds only. And then it loading for a long time, maybe about 1-2 minutes.
Sometime after that it can work normally again, but sometimes it can not.

I need to format my card to make it work normally again.

I dont know wheh, but after format the memory card, it works normally no matter how long I used. Open the mimo app to live record, view the video, etc.
I recorded 1080 30 fps, 4K, no problem at all.
Then The problem occurs on the next day. power on, then record for 5s... it show warning error on the display.... "SD card writing speed slow"

I always used 1080P 30fps. Because I think its enough for me. How can it show error?
I already used this memory card on my insta360 x3 5.3K, osmo pocket 1 recorded 4K.... no problem at all.
But recorded FullHD 30fps, it show "SD card writing speed slow" error??

It is strange that after formatting the card it works again.

At this moment I don't know what the faulty product is but in order to figure that out we need more information and extra troubleshooting on your end to exclude certain things after testing.

First question: What SD card is being used?:
Brand:
Version:
Write Speed:

How long did you have the SD Card? Has it been used extensively?

Do you have another SD card of the same brand size etc. to test?

Where did you buy the SD card? Can it be a counterfeit? etc (This is only to determine certain situations and to exclude them for further troubleshooting).

Other devices that work with it unfortunately are not the best way to determine a faulty SD Card as each device has a different way of storing the files etc. (but it indeed looks strange that it works on others).
-------------------------------------------------

DJI has its own list of recommended SD cards:

Supported SD Cards
microSD (up to 512 GB)
Recommended microSD Cards
Recommended models:

SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB V30 A2 UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas Go!Plus 64GB UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas Go!Plus 128GB UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 64GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Lexar Pro 512GB SDXC UHS-I V30 R160/W120 (1066x)
Lexar Pro 256GB SDXC UHS-I V30 R160/W120 (1066x)

-------------------------------------------------

But forum members can help you with other brands that work.

So let me begin with the one I have and works without any sign of problems in all modes:
Samsung PRO Plus 256GB and 512GB (2023 version)
Read: 180MB/s
Write: 130MB/s

The above is to determine if it is just that one SD card that is faulty or not, but mentioning the SD card brand and version can help the forum members a lot in thinking with you for a solution.

If the end conclusion is that it may be a faulty camera, then an RMA can be arranged with DJI support.

Hello there. Make sure that the SD card you are using is listed on the recommendation (Please refer to PankoGO's reply) as those SD cards are tested and ensured to work accordingly to the Osmo Action 4. Please reach back if you have further concerns. Have a great day ahead.

Get a new card from a retail seller, not from amazon/ebay etc. where there is possible it can be cheaper and/or fake cards.
It should say v30 on the card, and try another brand. I have luck with Kingston and Lexar.

I use samsung EVO plus like in the picture.

Please understand this :
1. After format, the  the card work normally no matter I used 4K 60fps, no problem at all.
2. I always use 1080P 30 FPS. Slower & smaller file size. But how can it be error while using 4K 60fps no matter at all suddenly using 1080 30fps.
3. I dont know how it happen, it happen 3 times now. I bought this OA4 last week. So I just used it several times only.
4. I used this card on insta360 X3 5.3K but never show error. And I only used this card several times only, no more than 10 times.
5. I used osmo pocket 1, set to 1080 dan 4K. Never have any problems. And I used osmo pocket only several times too. I am not youtube content creator that always shot video everyday. Even in 1 month I only used 1 time and then save them to the my desk.

So I believe there is nothing wrong with my card.

Yesterday I format the card for the 3rd tines, then I try to record anything today but no show error.
I choose 1080 30fps, 4K 60fps...

This is the second time I have seen the older Samsung EVO Plus failing due to slow writing speed as it was previously mentioned in another forum topic from another person wich had the same Samsung Evo Plus series but than the 128 GB version.

As said before the devices write and read at different rates and speeds, so comparing the SD card and testing it on other devices is not the best troubleshooting method.

The older version's write speed is simply too slow, the technology of SD cards has been more advanced now as the read and write data is different from the older SD cards.

Some manufacturers even have a higher write or read but only if you use their own adapters, this is the same with the devices that are being used each of them will write and read differently.

The card that is being used is not compatible as the Action 4 software already showed the notice that the SD card is slow. (This notice can mean that it is not compatible at all or certain modes are locked or can't be used ie; freezing or shutting down).

-------------------------------------------------

Please refer to the DJI own-tested cards:

Supported SD Cards
microSD (up to 512 GB)
Recommended microSD Cards
Recommended models:

SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB V30 A2 UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas Go!Plus 64GB UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas Go!Plus 128GB UHS-I Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 64GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB UHS-II Speed Grade 3
Lexar Pro 512GB SDXC UHS-I V30 R160/W120 (1066x)
Lexar Pro 256GB SDXC UHS-I V30 R160/W120 (1066x)

-------------------------------------------------

Like @johansenfoto he vouched for the Kingston and Lexar.

I can vouch for Samsung PRO Plus 256GB and 512GB with A2 and V30 rating (2023 version)

While DJI has a SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB in the recommended list, I can say that I'm not a fan of SanDisk cards.

Can you try H264 and see if that solves the problem? Temporarily until your new SD card arrives.

So to stay on the safe side use the recommended SD-Cards recommended by DJI or those that are tested here by forum members.

See if H.264 solves the problem temporarily and try to replace it with the cards recommended by DJI or tested by other forum members.

The Kingston recommended by DJI has an A2+V30 rating Also keep this in mind when ordering on a marketplace, don't buy from third-party sellers (as there might be counterfeits).

Hi there. I understand the inconvenience. The Samsung EVO Plus is not confirmed to work properly with the Osmo Action 4. It is better to use the recommended SD cards from the list as they were optimized and tested. Have a great day ahead.

Same problem with mine... plus image flickering, stuttering, but I will describe it in a separate thread. I bought two NEW cards, in official shop, samsung and angelbird. It's strange that only a few cards fit this camera and you can find out about it after time somewhere deep on the forum.. waste of time and money. Just frustration

We are sorry about the inconvenience. The recommended SD cards can be checked from the DJI Official website. You can use the following link to check: https://www.dji.com/global/osmo-action-4/specs. We would be glad to help you with the flickering issue. Would you be able to post a video for further checking? Thank you for your patience.

There are more cards that work with it but depends on the card ratings. A2 for example is a higher rating for Applications with that rating it will work better with the software than the A1 rating or no rating at all. V30 is a minimum write speed rating that the card won't go below 30MB/s.

It is safe to follow DJI's official recommended list since it has been tested by DJI to be compatible.
But older cards or cheaper cards won't be able to keep up with the demands of the software on the Action 4.

As for image flickering (assuming it is FPS-related) make sure you set the camera frame rate based on your region either PAL or NTSC.

In Norway it is PAL so keep 25/50/100FPS
Exceptions of flickering are phone screens, bus displays, etc.

You can break this rule if you shoot without lights around you or screens, then you can shoot whatever FPS you want. (Also make sure your editing software timeline is matching your footage FPS otherwise it can cause stutters or slowdowns).

While many American Youtubers will recommend 24/30/60/120FPS they are based on the NTSC region.
So their tutorials and guidelines do not follow the PAL regions.

This applies to all cameras, you can break any flickering by matching your shutter speed with the framerate. But this makes the Action Camera not so action-like and more like a regular camera where you need to set up each shot.

You can use this website to remove light flicker but not really great for ease of use of an Action cam unless it is for commercial purposes.

https://www.red.com/tools#flicker-free-video

On the top, you have more options for tools like panning/exposure, etc.

So your saying that only the 32gb version of this card is compatible and not the 256 version? (Seriously rethinking my purchase if this is the case)

I just bought a brand new Osmo Action 4 and just got a brand new SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB V30 A2 U3 to go with it. Right when i installed the SD card, there was a prompt saying “SD card speed slow, shooting may stop”.

As i checked, this SD card is a compatible one recommended from the official site. Does anyone knows how could i fix this issue?

I am trying to see of the shooting will indeed stop. So far 12mins into my recording and it seems to be working ok. Just everytime i start recording this prompt comes in and its pretty worrying.

Thanks in advance!

I get the same slow speed message and I'm using a brand new SanDisk card listed in the recommendation. It doesn't seem to be counterfeit as you can see on the picture. My camera is also brand new. I've tried formatting with the camera feature and formatting on my PC.

How to fix this error? I don't want to take the risk to lose footage.

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

SD card writing speed is related to the current number of files stored on the SD card and how it is used by the user. If the number of files is large, the writing speed will generally be slow. If the user, for example, occasionally deletes the files on the middle of the SD card this will lead to more file system fragmentation on the SD card, so that the SD card write speed will slow down. If the SD card writing speed is slow due to too much file fragmentation, try using a computer to format it. Ensure you create a backup before proceeding with the next step.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

The card I have, namely the SanDisk Extreme Pro V30 A1 UHS-I Speed Grade 3, IS on the list of recommended cards on https://www.dji.com/osmo-pocket-3/specs.
It is just not the 32GB card but the 512GB card and according to DJI's statement on the very same page, cards up to 512GB should be supported.

If DJI wanted to say that ONLY the specified sizes of the cards work and that any bigger (or smaller) size of the very same cards do not work, then DJI did miserably in communicating this fact, hence the many victims of this poor communication in the DJI forum https://forum.dji.com/forum.php? ... p;extra=#pid3508684
