Anyone else keep the VPS off on routine outdoor flights? I feel it's more of a detriment to the P3 when you have strong GPS lock.

Keep mine one...never had an issue.  What detriment do you think it might have?

Auto landing will not work properly along with auto takeoff if you disable. (if you care) ;)

i have mine always  turned off when over water!  i used to have it enabled at other times until one day i was up 300'+ and i noticed the VPS was saying i was up 12'. from that day on i have had it switched off. i dont fly indoors, i dont use auto take off, i dont use auto land, and i dont fly 9'(the max range of vps) off the ground. so i cant see the benefits for me.

Mines never turned on, dont need it, never use it.
Also 99% of my flights are over water (live on the coast) so not gonna risk it.

If I'm understanding what the instructions are telling me, the P3 uses VPS from 0-10ft. Above 10ft, it switches to GPS only to orient/stabilize.

The detriment would be that GPS lock is more reliable/accurate in keeping the P3 stable, isn't effected my light conditions/water/certain patterns that are said to throw off the VPS system.

My "trainer quad" was the Parrot AR 2.0. It uses the same VPS/sonar sensors for flight and altitude control. It wasn't accurate at all, but I'm really glad I learned to fly a quad with it. It's makes flying the P3 a breeze.

Side note: First flight with carbon fiber props last night. WOW. Love those things. It's A LOT more quiet and responsive.

let me be a bit more clear,  i turn it off not because they malfunction, i turn it off because i dont  use it and since there are debates about it  i dont need to risk using  something that is not useful to me. if i flew indoors or auto take off and land, i could see the reason to enable vps.

go to dji store and there u will see the carbon fiber reinforced props, $15 for 2 so $30 for a set and in my opinion well worth it. careful there are some fake ones out there. that is why i buy direct from dji, specially things that keep it in the air!!

amazon would be cheaper as there is a $20 shipping fee from DJI, but be careful of knock-offs.

Couldn't agree more.  For the record, these were the genuine DJI parts that came in the Genuine DJI packaging of 2pcs per pkg.

Ok now to add to this thread....
I recently returned my P3 Standard and bought the Pro.
I do plan on turning off the VPS feature as I fly mostly outdoors too.
My question.... would turning off this feature make the battery run longer on a full charge?  Does the VPS use more battery power vs not using it?
Thanks

The VPS doesn't  run much power . I doubt it would make a big difference on flight time .
