Finally, it's time to return to Norway. The Senja region remains a hidden gem for travellers. Before exploring Senja, we will also visit the Vesterålen.
These islands lie 200 to 400 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, above the Lofoten Islands.

Few landscapes in Norway offer as many different impressions as the island of Senja. When the weather is sunny, it's like finding paradise on earth.
Mighty mountains rise almost 1,000 metres above deep blue waters. Small beaches exude a Caribbean atmosphere, while the gentle green of the inland forests invites you to relax and rejuvenate. But when rain and fog set in, the region suddenly reveals its rugged side, and it is easy to see why the mountain range in the north is called Djevlens Tanngard, the Devil's Teeth.

Senja is often referred to as Norway in miniature, as it has everything that makes up Norway: fjords, steep cliffs, rock formations, trolls, waterfalls, the Northern Lights, reindeer and elk. The unspoilt nature and vastness of the island is truly captivating.

Most foreigners have never heard of this island, but the locals know the beauty of Senja. You won't find cruise ships or overcrowded sightseeing buses here, which preserves Senja's authenticity.

Stunning beauty well presented. Just as I thought "I'd love to fly fpv there" you do! Avata sped up on the ridge? Did you fly from the top, bottom or somewhere in-between?

Wow, what spectacular views.    Superb job on this video.  It's great that Senja has no cruise ships making port there nor a lot of sightseeing buses.

We started at the top of the mountain and enjoyed the view for about 1 hour. It is a great experience to hike there. On the way up it was partly very windy and it had rained. At the top, the sun came out and 1 hour later, when we were descending, everything was closed again and it had rained again.
We checked the satellite images to find a gap, which is the best way to plan a few hours ahead, but of course you always need luck. The weather in northern Norway is very capricious and can become very uncomfortable within 15 minutes. We also had hikes that turned out quite differently than we had hoped. With the camper van, you can bridge the bad days well and study the weather directly at a beautiful scenery and wait. The pictures shown in the video are often only 15 to 20 minutes where the sun breaks through and you have to take the chance. In the right place at the right time, so to speak. If you don't have that much time, for example because you only have 7 days' holiday, you can quickly be disappointed. Often the clouds hang so low that you can't see anything up on the mountains. Sometimes you have to wait a few days until it gets a bit better again. So you should plan on 2, better 3 weeks in this region. Oh yes, that was with the DJI FPV. The Avata would be too susceptible to wind... but we also had it with us :-)

Wow, what spectacular views.    Superb job on this video.  It's great that Senja has no cruise ships making port there nor a lot of sightseeing buses.

There are hardly any tourists, it is fantastically pristine and authentic. Let's see how long Senja remains an insider tip. The best way to get there is by motorhome, and you can spend the night almost anywhere in the beautiful places and enjoy the great view over breakfast. Wild camping is still possible here without any problems and is expressly permitted. You usually only meet like-minded people and immediately find conversation partners or new friends. It's such a great feeling of freedom. You don't often find that in Europe any more, and wild camping is certainly not. It really is a dream for nature lovers. Here you can really experience and enjoy nature without having to observe thousands of regulations.

Actually, everywhere there is little human intervention, there is great nature. Later, when we retire, we will spend many months travelling through Norway and living our dream.

Thanks for the explanation.
I saw the Avata's shadow on the beach but you were flying too fast so it either had to be sped up or a different drone.

I love your retirement plans.

When I first started working I set a goal for myself to be able to buy a large boat and tour around the world when I retire.  During my Navy career I was able to tour 64 different countries so that made reaching my goal even more important.  Thanks to making some rather lucrative investments I was able to retire and buy a mini-yacht.  So I live full time on a boat now and after hurricane season ends I'll be heading around the Caribbean Islands once again and then down to Aruba.  I will be returning back to Europe for several visits over the next year or two but due to the transit time it would take for my boat and the fuel used it is more cost effective for me to fly over.

Thank you very much for your positive words! Your career in the Navy, coupled with 64 countries travelled, leaves me with great respect. It is truly inspiring to be able to look back on such a life and travel experience.

I wish you always smooth waters, unforgettable adventures and safe travels on your future journey. It is always enriching to meet people who are as passionate about discovering new horizons as you are.

Mast and sheet break!

Greetings
