Hi,

After many many flights and tests (including with the latests version of DJI Terra), we realized that for the moment DJI TERRA is not stable at all when trying to reconstruct from multi flights.

W'll have : Reconstructions error (-1), or holes in the point cloud.

Hopefully DJI will do the necessary actions to let industriel users reconstruct surfaces such as  10 000 Ha areas

Terra is far from being point cloud processing software.  It's simply an interface to obtain a LAS.  

It is strongly recommended to carry out the assembly using another software to guarantee data quality.  GlobalMapper, TeraSolid...

In addition, if there are holes and reconstruction errors, it is probably because your GNSS solution is not solid enough, or the IMU calibration was poorly done.

And DJI L1/L2 is far for being a good payload, it is strongly recommended to use Yellowscan/Riegl products ...

And H20T or M3T cannot compete with flir products for solar plants

This is the strength of DJI's communication. We've all been fooled at least once. Now you know !

You also have to question your strategic choices. Because mapping 10,000ha with a drone... If you do your business plan correctly you will quickly realize that it may be cheaper to do it by plane.

But coming back to your problem with L1, there is certainly a GNSS issue, it is the most common error when the holes appear.

I do not recommend L1 at all for precise geometry work, but for forestry the quality/price ratio is ideal.

So far the max that I rebuilt in multiple cloud with Terra must be 100ha in 3 flights and 30km of road in 5 flights, and that did not pose a problem. For larger datasets I use GlobalMapper and Metashape.


The price of the Terra license is absolutely not justified for this use.


For thermal sensors you have to consider using the thermal SDK tools properly, otherwise yes it is a little less efficient than FLIR, but also much less expensive...

Just saying that today, LiDAR from DJI is full of promises but not totally ready yet.

Like when the M200 RTK when it was released : Much marketing, very few RTK.
