Ahh, Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury.  

I was reading up on that location and it appears there are still several spirits living there.  Must make for a spooky location to go to on Halloween.

Sadly its closed at the moment for unknown to me reasons.  Thats why I took advantage of the flight over the top.

Ah, very interesting. I went to Tilbury fort in 2020 but didn't know of this one at all. Not EH but very cool looking.

Nope, too far off from my plans for 2024 but thanks for the question: reminded me to add to my (growing) list for East Anglia (which I should've "done" in 2020 but far more to see...)

There is a walk between the two forts along the thames that is very popular at weekends.  There is also a secret battery at 51.469618, 0.427626 which involved popping over the fence in the play park or sending the drone over.

Ive now found 2,  1 at an inch and the second is almost 3 inches,   would be nice to find one intact like these - https://www.beachcombingmagazine ... -the-art-of-smoking

I never knew that they were purchased pre filled and then tossed away.

Absolutely,    It ad never crossed my knowledge that they were single use,     just looking at them would make you assume they were reused.

I thought it was too secret that I didn't even see it in the sat view but then I found it. History everywhere...

Its been well explored over the years,   but they changed the fence and made it a bit harder to access.

Very interesting structure. One for our list!

Yeah, I'm mainly gathering old buildings now.
And I will investigate much deeper if we have decided on a summer.
A lot will depend on the wellbeing of SWMBO. She does not have a lot of energy left, so we have to take that into consideration and not plan too much in one holiday.

You could probably do that by just coming over and staying in Kent,   theres enough there to see/do for a week and it wont be too much travelling.

AirBnB is quite good here for accommodation.    Weve used it a few times this year and the standards have all been really good.
