At the foot of a steep hill in Central Evia, which rises a few kilometers east of Chalkida, spread out the houses of a rural town, Phylla.
At the top of the Hill of Phylla dominate the remains of a medieval castle.
The history of the castle is linked to the legendary knight Lycarius who used the castle as his mount in the 13th century and after a turbulent and adventurous life, it was the castle to which he retired.
The castle is locally known simply as Kastelli and in historiography as Licario's castle. On old maps it is marked as Tianto or Lilanto Castle.
Amazing footage of the old castle ruins. The 360 views looking down from the castle must have made it an easy choice of where to build the castle. Interesting back story. Great job Tasos.
