The spectacular Bardenas Reales in Spain is a rugged and inhospitable desert in the Navarre region in the north of the country. The Bardenas Reales consists mostly of bizarre ocher-colored clay landscapes spread over several hundred square kilometers. Fairy chimneys, ravines, hills, and vast arid expanses… grandiose structures carved out by erosion take on different hues over the course of the day, in a warm palette of reds and ochre. The light changes the atmosphere so much that it’s worthwhile revisiting the same spot at different times of day, but dawn and dusk are undeniably when the light is at its most beautiful, and the scenery the most photogenic.
