Please have a look at our first test with the Pocket 3 with the Black Mist Filter.

Can anyone tell me more about the specifications of the Black Mist Filter?
Can't find anything on the DJI site...
EDIT: just contacted DJI Support... it is a 1/4 filter.

Thanks

Im still in two minds about this filter. It does produce a nicer effect around lights when shooting in lower light conditions - some with/without side by side footage would have been better if possible - but it is quite expensive for what it is.......

I quite like them too. Is there a value written on the filter? It looks quite strong.

It reduces the highlights and lowers the contrast. I think they were first used in portrait photography to soften wrinkles and blemishes , they overall soften the image.
Usually 1/2 1/4 1/8 of a stop.

I can’t seem to locate the filter value/strength anywhere - even on the DJI Store…….
It does look quite strong though. I’d like something slightly less…..may look at third party filters…..

I couldn't find the strength either. Slightly less might be better but I definitely looks less 'mini-camera' like. I use Glimmer glass on my Mirrorless cameras but only 1. Occasionally 3 which amounts (I think to 1/8 and a bit more than 1/4 on the Black Mist which I also use.

They really take the digital look away but some don't like it because they are so used to Action cam footage I guess.

I would LOVE a glimmer glass for the Action 4 and Pocket 2.

They nearly always come in at 1/2 1/4 1/8 stop of light.

Glimmer Glass is sold at 1,3 and 5 strengths. The others like the mists are done as fractions.

They react stronger with telephoto lenses too so if you generally use 1/4, then on a shorter focal length, it's sometimes better to switch to 1/8

How? Using blur? Does it look the same?

I’m going to get out and shoot some more low light footage with the ‘naked’ camera first and draw my own conclusions. Picking up all these accessories gets mega expensive……but it’s so tempting……! lol

That makes sense. I thought it was a bit stronger than my filters, but it is difficult to tell because of the focal length of the lens, which also affects how it looks. Generally, I use 1/8 or Glimmer Glass 1 on my bigger cameras. They are just a bit more subtle.

I have quite a few of them but rarely use the bigger values.

Ah, I see. Thanks. Just a Gaussian blur applied in sections. I did try Gaussian blur after you mentioned it, but even a small amount hitting the total picture can be too strong. I see from these it’s basically applied locally which makes sense.

Actually, I just tried a soft focus effect and tbh, that also gives a siliar look which can be dialled in to the amount that you want. It's a New Blue effect and seems to help a lot.
