Hi,

I am thinking about buying the pocket 3 but just realizes that it needs to be tethered to a phone for some tasks.
I have a very old phone (XiaoMi 4x) that I do not plan to upgrade, the Mimo app may run on it but the purpose of buying the pocket 3 is so that I can leave the phone behind.

I understand that activation requires a phone, is that a one-off? Can you load the firmware onto the SD instead of needing the app? Is there going to be a Desktop app that can do all that?

What other things require the phone to be around ?

Thanks
Matt

Yes activation is a one off task. Otherwise you can use the Pocket 3 standalone - I do most, if not all of the time. I only ever connect to my phone when an update is available.

Same here. But OP should be aware that a phone is required for an update - no other path currently exists.

Thanks. Yes, I just found out. I don't know if my phone can do the updates, it can't even pair some Bluetooth devices.

If the need for the phone is just restricted to activation and updates, it could be okay, I could borrow a phone and be done with it. Would be a problem (for me) if some features can only be accessed via the app.

You may use the product without the app however, we highly recommend having the Mimo app on your mobile device for future uses like firmware updates and other features that you want to use with the app. You can try to download and install the app to test the basic functions, or go to a nearby outlet (if any) for product testing. https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-mimo. Have a great day ahead.
