I've got a Ronin 4D with expansion plate, i'm running a sennheiser 416 into XLR input 1. Almost every time i turn the camera on, the channel recieves no input, until i switch off 48v power and switch it back on. Sometimes i have to switch it off and on up to 3 times, then i finally get audio feed. I have no issues until i power down and power back up again. Anyone else have this issue? I haven't tried to replicate the issue on channel 2 yet.

1、Please confirm whether the microphone model is: Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U3 moisture-proof shotgun microphone;
2、Please confirm whether the firmware version of DJI Ronin 4D is the latest, if it is not the latest version, please upgrade the device to the latest firmware version;
3、To further confirm the problem, please provide us the following information again:
1) Take a picture of the DJI Ronin 4D firmware version information page;
2) Record the operation video of connecting the phantom microphone after DJI Ronin 4D is paired with the body expansion board. (Please upload the video to google drive or another cloud drive and share an open link here. I will download it and check it for you.)

I have had nothing but massive issues with the expansion plate .. been to Holland for a fix and off back again this week as it’s not working again .. no sound input at all .. the mini jack is appalling and now not operational .. I know of other ronin 5d owners with the same issue .. totally unacceptable.. has cost me many thousands of pound in lost production and not confident that it will be sorted ..

I have been experiencing problems as well....I have intermittent issues whereby the XLR 1 or 2 stops working...at present I am going to take it off and send it back to DJI...not a solid option unfortunately.....I will have to go back to using just the one 3.5mm input which is so limiting ....

so I've reset the camera, re-loaded the firmware and still the same thing. Clean audio with XLR 2 but nothing on XLR 1.

Please advise a fix as this camera is worthless to me if it can't record professional audio.

I sent my whole camera in with a rode stereo video mic x. It's the same issue. They came back to me after testing and advised it didn't work. The thing is, I am now using a Tascam x8 and running into problems. I am searching for help and have seen this page. I now hear the sound input through headphones in the output jack of the camera, and my levels are good. I have it set at @48hz. (Oh, by the way, I ended up returning the plate.) has no sound attached when I import.  I haven't been able to use this camera with a good audio file. It is driving me insane with frustration. Nothing in this price range should be this much of a problem.  but luck with the crap plate its junk. I fear it's the camera as well as the plate. it's just flawed.

I have the same issues XLR inputs, they are not reliable at all. This is BS!

Update: I now have no audio at all not even from internal. Does anyone have any ideas?
I have downgraded and upgraded the firmware.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I have a brand new Audio Expansion plate, and it does not work as it should. To get it to work, I have to flick the phantom power off and on several times on the XLR channel.

It is very un-nerving knowing this issue with job.

I'm running the latest firmware.

DJI, do you have any updates on this issue and a resolution for it? Thanks

Also had two expansions plate which no longer works . First it started off with one xlr port not working now it’s both. I’m in the same situation once again. DJI you have multiple people complaining on the same issue with no responses that’s real

Configuration:
Expansion plate first, then the transmitter then the battery.

My expansion works, everytime and has not asked me to make any changes.

I finally got squared away to ship mine back to them. They almost immediately sent out a replacement when they received mine. It's out for delivery now, so wiill update everyone soon.

Same issue here, expansion plate not working. When it does decide to work, after you turn camera off and back on again you get nothing. Literally have to refresh the firmware every time.  Latest firmware and using Sennheiser MKE600. This is absurd. You made us wait forever for the release, then it's buggy as hell when you do. Need help.

Email us.support@dji.com with a description of your issues, they'll have you ship it in, and send you a new one. That's what they did with me. New one works fine, have had zero issues on 3 shoots.

Do any lights come on when you switch the mic power on one of the XLR ports? It should be a green light next to the switch. It sounds faulty to me.

Any updates on the problems with Ronin 4D XLR plate? I bought mine a few weeks ago and the problems started after a few days. Right now, XLR 1 is dead - green light when using 48v, but only glitches and no stability at all. XLR 2 worked until today, had to reset is now ant then, and turn 48v on/off several times to get it to work...but now #2 is dead as well. Camera firmware updated. Been in contact with DJI and waiting for response. Any clues, is it hardware or software issue? Seems like they launched a product way too early...based on all comments in this thread. (and yes, tried with all kinds of mics, wired, wireless, 48v, non 48v...)

Sorry to hear! I just received a new XLR unit from DJI after sending in the broken one. Tested briefly and seems to work fine. Quite complicated service process with sending in images, films, explanations, phone calls…I asked several times for a new unit, but DJI refused and wanted to repair the old one, but apparently they changed their mind and sent me a new one.

I have had all the same problems. At first, both XLR ports worked great. Then XLR1 stopped working. I sent in the XLR expansion plate for repair and they replaced it. Unrelatedly, I had to get a repair on the Ronin 4D body and they ended up replacing that unit, too. So now I have a brand new Ronin 4D AND XLR expansion plate. Guess what? NONE OF THE XLR PORTS WORK. This expansino plate is worthless. As customers of DJI demand that this gets fixed. We are paying for a worthless piece of metal right now.

Glad to see that this issue isn't just with me. I was trying to figure out why I couldn't get any sound from my XLR expansion module for the Ronin 4D... now I see why!

What good is a groundbreaking cinema camera that users are unable to get clean audio from without a working expansion plate! Please help us Ronin 4D users!!!

I was planning to get the XLR module with a new Ronin 4D system.  Anyone know if these issues are hardware or firmware related, and in either case if the issue has been fixed?  This module is too expensive to not work properly.

They haven’t. I just bought a second expansion and it’s giving me the same issues the first one did. Nothing but hiss coming from the audio

That SUCKS! I absolutely hate the audio on this camera. I recently switched to using a rechargeable rode shotgun mic for size, and reducing weight of the camera by removing the audio plate.

I have also lost any audio on xlr 1. Will try to replace but seems to be defective.

Just received my 3rd XLR module for my Ronin 4D. Same problem with the first two, stop working after a few weeks/months. Let’s hope this 3rd example gives me luck.

Same here unfortunately…at first all was great. But then the problems started… this night at a job I couldn’t get any mic to work with the plate. They are all 48v mics, many there is a problem with the phantom power? But still, I love the camera but the audio with expansion plate sucks… out of necessity I’m recording on a seperate mixer.

Also the 4D arm starts behaving weird sometimes after the latest firmware… sometimes it starts moving up and down quite fast for no reason.  Anyone experiencing this as well?!

Crazy... have some dirt cheap, Chinese made UHF wireless XLR mic adapters from amazon with 48v phantom power and they work flawlessly.  Seems like this very expensive module that provides Timecode, SDI out, and XLR w/48v phantom power should be easy to engineer compared to the rest of the very complex Ronin 4D system, yet seems to be the most problematic component.  And on a cine camera in this price range, having those ports shouldn't even require an expansion module in the first place.
