Going Solar in New Brunswick

Good to see.

It's a huge parking lot with solar panels and charging station underneath.

I just priced out putting 6 panels on my roof. They wanted 41,000 dollars. I can't imagine they are worth more than 10,000. I basically break even except for the govt. breaks for about 16,000.

My daughter looked into it but it was a long time to break even on the funds output.  The other issue is that the insurance companies raise your premiums because of the extra weight on the roof.  To compound matters even more the installer has to pull a permit.  Once the inspector comes out he notifies the country appraiser and then your home value goes up and so do your property taxes.  So she opted against them at this time.  

I installed a couple on the top of  my combined storage building/garage and they work quite well.  I have one panel on the top of my boat in case of an emergency while at sea.  However, I should never have to use it since I have two massive generators onboard.

I am probably not going to do it. It's taking on debt without really saving that much money. The homes are harder to sell once the panels are up because not as many people can qualify for a mortgage and another $250 per month for the panels.

Yeah, probably not worth it.  There is a new neighborhood under construction here that every house will come with solar panels already installed.  No doubt the asking price for those houses will go up considerably.  

It's the way forward - along with wind and wave power
