Pocket 3 watches CNC....

A little test to see how well the Pocket 3 can monitor the CNC machine,  sadly it failed the first time as it didnt like the flickering from the LED lighting.

For the second go I turned the lights off.

Well that certainly worked.  I guess those flickering LEDs were too much for the OP3 on the first go.

I need to do some more testing,  as Im not sure if its the Timelapse making it worse or the camera really doenst like them,  I don't recall seeing the flickering before when using other cameras.

An intriguing subject for a timelapse. The little things manage to sell this, such as how the wooden dust "dances" along the surface during the timelapse. Also, your machine-making skills are very impressive

Looks like a very sophisticated router. Interesting to watch.

Those chips are moving due to vibration from the cutting action,   unlike with a router theres no air cooling on the spindle as its water cooled.

Yes,  the original one I built was made from birch plywood and for the rails I used some 90 degree angle and roller skate bearings,     I ran that machine too hard and too long so I bit the bullet and designed an all aluminium machine with a proper linear rail system.    It was certainly something that I checked and doubled checked the measurements many times before pulling the trigger on the parts.

That was a fairly complex build to be fair,  and I pushed some of my tools to the limit cutting and machine the aluminium parts I needed to make to hold motors etc.

Do you get a lot of use out of it?  I'm guessing probably yes since the prototype shook itself to bits ?

I go through phases,   so at the moment Im building a set of bird feeders to replace some that have succumbed to the weather,  But it can also 3d carve,  and rotary carve and engrave,  theres even a low power laser for it for doing my makers mark.

My younger daughter would be envious. She does woodturning - mainly by lathe.

I guessed that was what caused the movemnet of the chips. And pretty interesting to know that about the spindle.

On that same rotary tool I have made jigs to allow me to engrave glasses too.

Yes,    Its a fun one as you have to model the glass in 3d to project the tool paths onto to ensure the pressure would be right.

It's a knife that can swivel like trolley wheel,   Useful I you want to cut vinyl or something similar.
