So true.  On a side note I'm still trying to figure out all the changes that went into effect in the UK for drones on January 1st. I'm just glad here it goes simply by weight (at least for now but I'm sure the FAA is watching what is going on in the UK).

As fast as we become used to one set of regulations, they introduce another.
I'll carry on relying on my own common-sense.

That's a great plan.  Unfortunately, there are some pilots that don't exercise common sense and that is what makes it hard on the rest of us. Fortunately I do most of my flying within my acreage.  However, this morning there was a US Cost Guard helicopter that flew over at about 150 feet above me and was hauling butt to get out into the ocean.  It was raining so I was not flying  but I've never seen a helo that low.  I'm thinking he was headed out on a drug op surveillance patrol.

Thanks for that link.  Unfortunately the US Navy and US Coast Guard helos don't transmit their ADB when they are on military missions or training exercises.

It seems that I'm in the flight path for those helos when they go out on drug ops or training missions in the ocean.  The Coast Guard does a lot of drug interdiction ops because southern Florida seems to be a favored port to bring drugs in from South America.

It certainly is.  However, that is probably why there is such a large concentration of federal law enforcement personnel in this area.  They recovered two min-subs used for transporting drugs and have seized over 50 4 engine speed boats used for hauling drugs.  Even more interesting they have caught and seized 2 helicopters and 4 airplanes used for the same nefarious purposes.

Sadly, it's such a massive global problem, that's probably only a drop in the ocean.

No doubt.  For everyone they catch they guess that at least 3-4 more get through.  Not sure how or if it is even possible to stop the flow of drugs into the US.  I think all they are trying to do is keep it to a slow stream and then try to catch the street dealers.

Indeed it is.  The 50 year war on drugs has been a failure as currently drug overdoses have hit a devastating new record of 90,000 deaths per year.

I'm not a big fan of 'digital' zoom.
It usually shows in the end result.

I have not tried it with the 3, but the Mini 2 was not really usable with digital zoom.
