I just want to know if it's best to leave the bin file on the SD card after completing a firmware update, or should I, or could I erase it?

Leaving them in the SD card will allow you to update FW on spare batteries as you use them.  Either way is fine.
(I use the 16GB card that came with the P3 as an "update" card and bought a 64GB for my video and photos.)

Okay, thanks for the info! I am currently using a 64 GB SD card. I put the 16 GB card that came with my phantom 3 to the side.
