Yeah, the sky pretty much says it all....gloomy start to the day.  Good news is Spring is only 69 days, 14 hours and 24 minutes away.

I dont suppose you can have a word and prioritise the shipping on spring can you?

Very dull and grey here,   just made a new pinhole for my pinhole lens adapter thingy but its too dark to test it,   trying to summon up the enthusiasm to go and do the second coat of paint on a couple of fence panels.

I certainly wish I could.  I just ordered another 2,000 rounds of target ammo to get me through the next 7 weeks.

We may get snow overnight next Friday - the rest of the time just dull and damp.
Just like this morning - grey.

Well, so long as it's the dry powdery stuuf I don't mind
Grey wet slush - not so much

$249 per case of 1000 so basically 25 cents a round.  They are 115 grain FMJ (brass).  I reload them only once.

Thats not bad at all,  here air gun pellets can set you back £20 for 500.

It is a good price.  However, I strictly use it as target ammo.  For self defense ammo I use full 124 grain jacketed hollow point bullets with brass casing.  They have a better casing and primer type and also a muzzle velocity of 1160 fps.  Of course they cost more at 51 cents a round so you don't want to use these for target practice.

Do they have a use by date?

In the past, ammunition relied on black powder to act as the propellant for the shell. However, most ammunition today is made with smokeless powder, capable of lasting considerably longer.  Brass is less susceptible to corrosion so I always avoid steel cased ammunition.  Most manufacturers guarantee that their ammunition will last for at least a decade.  So yes there is an expiration date.  However, there are many stories of military surplus ammo being used for decades after it was manufactured.

I rotate my bulk of target practice ammo using oldest first.  For my concealed carry weapon I rotate it out every 3 months and expend it on the range at targets.  As the concealed carry ammo is exposed to the elements (and not stored in a climate controlled gun closet), indentations from the bullet feed ramp and extra lubrication picked up from regularly cleaning the gun could cause issues down the line.  So for safety I just rotate it out and put in new shells.

So the more expensive ammo still ends up as target practice ammo if not used for a while.

Yes, which is why I don't buy it in such large quantities as I do the target ammo.  I go through the target ammo fast enough to never worry about it going out of date.

Oh.  I came out of my workshop yesterday and the 4 1/12ft door caught the wind and was slammed into my elbow which is now rather uncomfortable.
