Residents here don't complain. They don't have to shovel or travel in the new fallen snow.

I guess they're just as quiet in the summer too

Seems like Buffalo wins the prize for getting more snow that any other location in NY state.  


UPDATE:  Seems I was totally wrong about buffalo.  I did a little googling and found this out.

Oswego - 136.6 inches of average annual snowfall
Fort Drum - 130.5
Watertown - 122.7
Fredonia - 118.3

I used to work in Rochester, NY,which is south of Buffalo. Winters were brutal but beautiful.

I did see where Buffalo got 188.3 inches in 2022.  It said it had to do with something called heavy lake effect snow.

Between the northern exposure and the winds whipping up off that lake, it creates quite a bit of precipitation.

No doubt about that.  I read a few online articles and it seems that area can be quite brutal, weather wise.

I used to train racehorses in Finger Lakes when I was younger. The season ended in late fall. It would snow and get brutally cold in fall. NYC was balmy compared to their winters.

You have quite the varied background.  The closest I ever came to racehorses was betting on them.

I had just got out of school and my family got into the NY State breeding program. There were lots of incentives. They told me that if I could get my trainers license they would give me horses to train. I worked on the racetrack for free on weekends and I thought they were magnificent animals. I worked for a Vet to help me get my license and the rest was easy. long days and hours. After a few years I realized that 7 days a week was too much.

My brother was a Veterinarian so I'm well aware of the amount of hours that job requires.  I remember many family gatherings that he got called out from for an animal emergency.  He definitely had the patience and passion for that type of work.  I guess growing up on the farm and taking care of all the animals gave him the boost to go into that career path.

He has really built up his practice and has added on two other Veterinarians.  So now they rotate being on call.  He much prefers not being on call 24/7.

Believe it or not he still has a real passion for helping animals and he has been doing it now for 25 years.

He covered for the Zoo Vet when he had to have an emergency appendectomy so he got to treat some exotic animals.  He said he was amazed at the strict food regimen they have the animals on.

He said that every animal had an electronic medical record and they received regular exams and blood work.  Could be it was just that particular zoo.  Believe it or not he said they had a $12M annual budget for care and feeding.  Admission tickets alone didn't even cover the annual cost to operate but he said they had some major donors.
