Wow, what a magnificent compilation for January.  I really, really find January 20th to be the most intriguing capture.  Fantastic video DA.

They were sand pipers,    its was a most intriguing sight,  there must have been thousands of them together like that.

If it ever stops being so overcast again I will try again,  but oddly since the firmware upgrade the time-lapse exposure settings seem different,  or it may just be my imagination.

Could be they tweaked something in the firmware that is effecting the timelapse exposure settings.

Groundhog day is more applicable to the weather in the upper portions of the US.  The media really makes a big deal of the Groundhog Day ceremony held at Punxsutawney in western Pennsylvania.

That was first thing in the morning, they've been there for a few Sundays now.  Ive never seen anything like it there before,  although the geese are growing in numbers there too,  many many hundreds of them.

There are lots of geese around here too - and i even saw a cormorant sat in a tree during my walk on Thursday. Couldn't get a good picture of it though.

That feels unusual to me,   as I only see them near water here.    Hes not drying his wings either.

It's right by the river Goyt, which that close-up doesn't show.
I saw one last year too (may even have been the same one) flying along a section of the canal, which is nearby there.  I tried sneaking closer, hiding behind trees, but it flew off.

Thats like the ones I see,  they really don't like being too close to us,  he herons are the same if not a bit more finicky.

You can get reasonably close to the heron on occasion.

I've been trying to find a clip of one I got within 10 feet of, sat on the canal bank, before it flew off.
But I can't find it

Rain for more of the week now,   and even rain today which was not forecast.  And then a week Monday snow is forecast,  about 35mm but I bet that changes.

Yeah, sounds like you are still in the mix of winter weather.  We had a couple of times where the sun was able to break through all the clouds today but once again it was windy.  Yeah, the kite surfers were out again for most of the morning.

I caught a break this morning,  and as soon as I can muster the motivation I have some jobs to do in the garden.

One of the jobs was to make a temporary log storage area with some pallets that I picked up on Friday,   Ive got too much wood at the moment and there is wood in the store that I dont want to keep or block in so the new stuff needs a temporary home first.

I guess it is better to have too much wood than not enough but those can create other issues for sure.

Indeed,    and I'll probably take more if it's offered,   I'll find somewhere to put it, even if I have to extend the existing log store.
