Took some time, but here is a fresh update.
Lots of work on the ceiling.
Those beams had about 700 screw holes in them.....
And the old paint had to be removed in some parts....
But I'm happy with the outcome so far.
Next job is priming the walls and painting the plasterboard on the ceiling.

Another really nice update Peter.    Lots of work in order to be able to repurpose those ceiling beams.  Looking good, keep at it.

Thanks Rich. They were previously hidden behind a lot of planks and some fake beams. But we decided to bring them back. This also means we get a little more height, which is nice because the previous (fake) beams were running into the window frames (not nice).

There used to be planks below these beams and fake beams below. The previous owner did not want to put in the hours I did, so he chose the easy way (just add a fake ceiling).
But we wanted to bring back the original beams and put plasterboard in between. (like it had been before the previous owner installed the fake ceiling).
This also meant the ceiling finally would not end 'in' the window frames (as it did) because of the added face ceiling.
But that was a lot of screw holes to fill. Close to 750 I think.
And also on the plasterboard. Even more, since I had to fill those twice or even 3 times to make them super smooth (invisible) and sand them down.
So yeah, it took a looooooong time, but it's totally worth it (if you do it, do it right).
This is our living room
We did a lot of upgrades and improvements to make it future proof and well insulated.

So far it's back and forth between 'man, I want it to be over' and 'man it's starting to look nice'

The ceiling looks great.

Absolutely. At this point I even like how the primer is making the plasterboard look.
It has this tiny bit of shine now.

It will. Just finished prepping the walls.
Now I'm going to have some wall paint mixed in the color we want.
Hopefully painting the ceiling tomorrow.

Ok, I forgot 2 things. But I just did them.
The front door (which needs replacing under warranty) still needed to get some paint and one corner had some bad spots in the wall which I wanted to fill. So that is what I did.
The door is kind of in the way of applying the wallpaper, so that needs to be done first.
(it is standing against the wall now)

That's a great idea as it will streamline the process a little as you can keep going with the same color paint.
