Great shot!    One of the most powerful ships of her time.  I'd hate to be on the receiving end of those 16 inch shells she could lob at you.  I did see her in action in December 1983 off the coast of Beirut, Lebanon.  She put on quite a show when she fired eleven 16" projectiles at hostile positions.  The crew onboard called her the Big J.

Wow, now its a floating museum. Fun to fly around this powerhouse. Unfortunately i attempted a video but forgot to hit record while i was flying directly over it for a topdown.

Im assuming shes retired Charles?

Yes It's a floating museum. Still just s impressive as the day it was built. As I was flying over it someone was shooting cannons in the area and it startled the heck out of me.

Nice,  we have something similar on the Thames in central London.

Unfortunately I didn't have time. I went here in between roof inspections. Took 30 minutes of photo and video and had to leave.

Next to an aircraft carrier those old BBs were some of our biggest ships.  They are definitely fun to tour.

I would have loved to. I spent lunch there for a hot dog and a flight and was on my way. Will revisit in spring or summer.

Several years back I took my grandson on a tour of the Battleship Texas.  I was telling how things worked and pretty much lots and lots of details.  Within the first 15 minutes of the visit I had at least a dozen people following me around like I was a tour guide.    I think my grandson got more a kick out of it than I did.  He kept telling everybody "my grandad was in the Navy and he knows all about ships".

That's good. I have a few sites that I manage which gives me access to maritime info. I manage a lighthouse museum website, a maritime museum site and a maritime radio communication history site, so I have a little more knowledge on it than most layman. The sea is very interesting with lots of mysteries.

It certainly is.  Also, one of the last unexplored locations.  About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered so there is a lot of exploration that could be done.

So very true.  Although we've spent more time exploring parts of space and very little into exploring what's under the oceans.

There have been lots of civilian submarine mishaps lately probably because there is ore interest in exploration

Yeah, no doubt many of the civilian subs lack the state of the art electronics that US Navy subs have onboard.  I saw a really cool 3 man sub at the dock in Fort Lauderdale a while back.
