The now, sadly derelict, Church of St John, comprising of a chancel, nave, aisles and a tower, was built in the grounds of the County Lunatic Asylum, Whittingham. As with all Victorian Institutions of the day, religion played a great part and, it was to this end that a Church was built within the grounds and was named St John's.
The contract for the erection of a Church and a Chaplain's house was awarded in September 1871, estimated costings being £4,632.00 and £1,579. 8s 2d respectively. An organ was purchased and installed in the Church at a cost of £250. St John's Church was Church of England, and provision for Roman Catholics was made in a room set aside in one of the wards. In June 1875 the Church was licensed by the Bishop of Manchester.
The first hospital chaplain was the Rev W T Palmour. The Asylum cemetery was consecrated in 1895, again by the Bishop of Manchester and the chaplain was subsequently awarded 2/6d for each burial service performed.

Great close-up detail. Sad to see such a magnificent building in that stage of decay. Nice arrangement of PachelBel's Canon by the way.
Yeah, I liked the music, just seemed right for the short flight.
The housing estate being built all around it will like as not leave the church even more forgotten unless the council plans to turn it into a community hub come to fruition.

It needs some enterprising chap to motivate the local community into giving the council a poke in the right direction

There are more I'm sure, not near me though. For all the decay and ruin, they can make interesting places for videography...
Paul.
No doubt they do have that appeal for a great place to fly. Some in further decay even make for a great place for FPVs to explore.

I've seen a few FPV's - they go wayyyyyyy to fast for my liking!!
I had a cinewhoop but unfortunately I had to get rid of it because I kept getting vertigo while trying to fly it. I even tried to fly it while I was sitting down and still got dizzy. That little beast was a speed demon for sure.

Pedestrian and cinematic for me, that's how I feel best... ;)
I really haven't set up one yet. I have about 5 TBs of archival footage now. My next step is to get skilled in video editing. I've been doing more flying and looking than filming but time to start changing that.
