Thanks for the tips. I did get the front screen to work by doing the "flip up" which required my hand to get in (ruin) the shot as I fiddle with the screen beside the lens - and then the back screen turns off. How much more effort would it have taken DJI to support both at once ?!
Hi there. The two screens of Osmo Action 4 cannot be operated (front and rear screens) simultaneously. When operating a certain screen, the other screen will enter a locked state and need to be unlocked before using it again. However, we will consider this as a suggestion and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation. We appreciate your patience.
This is a horrid design feature. To not be able to flip the camera back and forth. For those of us who vlog with it. It makes no sense. Go pro has been doing it for years. I just switched all of our vlogging cameras over to the action 4. Only to be stuck not being able to just see both screens in 4k 60FPS. To those of you wondering, you can go down to 4k 50FPS and both screens will work simultaneously.

vor 3 Jahren wusste GoPro nicht Mal was ein 2 Touchscreen ist Was ist so schwer, tap the screen??!
the camera when released had issues with correctly showing the front screen it took them such a long time to figure out the resolution had to be dropped, and yet they found a fix. simply look at the screen or like said touch it and switch over 2017 issue

I realize this is an older post but thought I'd mention...I too wish both screens stayed on but I stumbled into the fact that apparently they both stay on, even in 4k, if you shoot in D-log mode.

Overheating and short battery life would be the issue. DJI don't wan't to deal with the usual GoPro complaints
As I grabbed the four cameras the Action 3 can easily do the front/back in higher fps, the Action 4 can not and like ramblingman noted, turn on D-log M.
1 to film a selfie is to set up the screen first, then record, either downgrade to the Action 3, or upgrade to the action 5 pro if both screens are important or go back to the dark side with a gopro, because the Ace pro will not be the answer.
