They are port of London authority signs and a price list for launching.

Yes that was low tide indeed.   Although there is always water at the bottom of the sip way for small boats and canoes etc to access the water.

It appears that you pay. via an honour system of ringing up to do it so Im guessing most dont bother.

It's become super popular with the SUPs since the route was published on  SUP website they make out you can go and and see sea lions.

They've named a lump of sand sea lion point which I think might be an exaggeration,  although they have started to appear at the end of the pier.

Sea lions tend to be highly social animals that are naturally curious and unafraid of us humans. I've seen them approach people on beaches, docks, and boats.  There are a lot of them in Islamorada Florida Keys.

We saw lots in San Francisco but here they are not usually that close to people   we past the pier the other Sunday and they were litterally queuing with scopes and cameras waiting for them to open to see them.

Seems they are quite the phenomenon at that location.  They are so common here I guess we just take them for granted.

Theres a beach further north where they gather to have pups and when they do they have to rope off the beaches and walk ways due to the amount of people that go to see them.   Probably because they aren't seen often,   usually a breif head above water and then they are gone.

Easy to see why they would gather a crowd then when they have pups.

You do see some great sights up there,     I captured this snap of a group of pregnant ones going into a WW2 pill box.  This was part of the defences to the Luftwaffe who were flying over to bomb us.

Great shot.    Nice to see the old pill box still being use, if only for the seals and their new pups.

Those pill boxes are scattered around these parts,  you can barely travel a couple of miles without spotting one or two.  More often than not they are in the middle of farmers fields.   The ones along this part of the coasts are being lost to the sea due to erosion.

Time to get them documented before the sea claims them then.  It really is amazing at how well built there were.

Wow, I had no idea over 28,000 were built.  Sad to hear that less than 6,000 still survive.

I know it doesnt seem many but they are everywhere,  I even had a shot of one on the front cover of a local magazine some years ago.   What's nice is that they are all a bit different, even if they are built to a specific design,  the dads army people all had their local tweaks.

What seems amazing as they had to of been constructed in a hurry yet they were so well constructed they have lasted over 8 decades.

I suppose building to be bomb proof makes them last well.

I'm sure that helps.  Just imagine how much material it took to build those thick walls, etc.  However, I'm not sure I'd want to be in one while bombs were dropping.
