Is there a way to turn the UI and video feedback into portrait mode ?

I use the app with an osmo action 1 on a motorbike and my phone is in portrait mode, I would like to be able to switch between two apps just to check the framing without having to turn my head.

I tried Dji Mimo on Android and iOS, without success.

Not sure about the Osmo Action series, but I can film portrait video with my Pocket 2 by quickly turning it from upright position in to a sideways one. It can be a bit iffy and sometimes I have to attempt the turn multiple times, but when I succeed, the Pocket 2 and the Mimo app automatically recognize it as a vertical video. It also is somewhat spotty with the UI and monitoring with the Mimo app as well, and doesn't always recognize it even after multiple attempts, so sometimes I just have to rotate the video in post. Of course, that doesn't help monitoring while filming the materials. So it is a bit of hit-and-miss.

Also, not sure if this is supported in the original Osmo Action. I do remember reading DJI advertising the Osmo Action 3 or 4 (can't remember which) as automatically recognizing portrait mode shooting when the camera is placed vertically, so it could be it hasn't been applied before those models were released.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. To switch to Portrait mode on your DJI Osmo Action, go to photo mode, rotate Osmo Action 90° and the system will automatically change to Portrait mode. With the DJI Mimo app, we may need to clarify this to our relevant team for further clarification. We will keep you posted. Thank you.

I have the same problem.  We are talking about the orientation of the app on a smartphone.   Not the orientation of the image being captured.

Hold your phone in portrait mode stright up in front of you.
Bend over and  Rotate it down past flat and the app turns upside down.

Similarly place the phone flat and tilt it a bit in any direction.
The orientation of the app will change.
Notwithstanding the fact that your view of the phone has not.

I sense what your dev's are trying to do.
Monitor the gyro and and automatically just the orientation of the app.
This is a flawed approach at best.
yes you know the orientation oof the phone.
But you don't know the orientation of my eyes.

Moreover, Android provides management of this feature at the OS level.
You can lock orientation or have it auto rotate.

Your developers have exerted extra effort to actively subvert this standard Android behaviour.
End users suffer because of this.

Every time your developers automatically rotate the screen in a direction that is out of synch with my eyes  a kitten dies.
Shame on you DJI.

Either follow the Android default behavour (which is configurable).
Or provide settings that are configurable so users can opt in to your craziness (ie lock orientation. auto orient, etc)

This has been out there for a long time.
There are many threads on this.

YOu do great tech, but it is only as strong as weakest link.
This makes MIMO almost useless for anyone who is moving around.

As written here :  https://forum.dji.com/forum.php? ... p;page=1#pid3283383
"DJI Mimo will directly call the mobile phone sensor data to identify the orientation and will not be affected by the mobile phone’s “orientation lock” or “auto rotation” settings."

So, it's not a device problem, it's a development choice problem.

Will you finally do something for us DJI ?
