It's not that much, but it is time consuming.

Yeah, I remember from helping my son on that one reno that a lot of the last stuff to get done was a bit tedious and time consuming.

It went quite well yesterday. Got all the reveals cut and now they are ready for sanding.

Seems like in renovation work you never run out of something that needs to be sanded.

I was just thinking the same.
Sanding is 'done' but the next sanding job is around the corner. (pun intended)

Yeah, that is always a lengthy process.  My son used to always remind me to use a new or really sharp bit for drilling finish holes to preclude any chip out around the screw hole.

Absolutely.
I have done that.
(only not the new bit, but it was sharp enough.

I wish I had his knowledge when it comes to reno type stuff.  He said 90% of what he knew he learned on the job from trial and error.  Guess that is one way to learn but could get expensive depending on what you messed up in the learning process.

Yeah, that can get expensive quickly if you're a slow learner.
I often try things out on offcuts before doing the real cut. Just to be sure.
Takes some time, but worth it for me.

Unfortunately, he was always wanting to get the job done quickly.  Fortunately, he was a quick learner and didn't have too many re-dos.  He was lucky because a friend of his was a finish carpenter and he gave him lots of tips to use.  His friend built some really beautiful cabinets in custom homes.

The stain / oil turned out darker than expected, not sure why, but fortunately we like it better

Yeah, I got caught in that situation once (well, maybe twice) and learned my lesson quickly.  Now when I stain things I do a sample piece and wait and see how dark or light it is after sitting and drying overnight.  Lengthens the project but saves time and money in the long run.

We did. But somehow it did turn out much darker.
Not sure why.
It was a different bottle, but the same brand.

Could have been labeled incorrectly or somebody goofed on the formula between batches.
