I have a DJI Mini 4 Pro and I got some videos of the waves at the beach. The footage was good, but since most drones including the DJI Mini 4 Pro don't record sound, I wanted to put some sound effects of waves crashing into the video, but how do I add sound effects? I use iMovie as my primary video editor, so do I just get a seperate audio recording and merge the audio with the video?

I always do this on my PC.
Davinci Resolve is a great free editor. It has a learning curve, but a lot of pros use it.

Make sure you watch a good tutorial 'for dummies' because it can be quite overwhelming.
