A Confused Sky.....

Another day and another forecast that cant stay still,  seems that the rain is coming and going by the hour.

In that light and colouring it almost looks like it has snowed

Interesting cloud cover and the river looks completely frozen.

I saw this on the international news this morning:

"Heavy rain and strong winds could disrupt travel and pose a risk to life in the run-up to the Easter weekend, forecasters have said.  A yellow warning for 113km/h gusts would be in place on Thursday for most of the south coast of England, from East Sussex to Cornwall."

I'm guessing that might be what the clouds are demonstrating.

Yep,  we're under a yellow alert for wind here.   It's for storm Nelson I think,   at least the wind might dry the paint on the fences faster.

Seems to be south coast and wrapping around to the east,  Portsmouth looks like it's going to be hit hard.

lol,  from the news they did have some issues down there,   I spotted a few trees down on my morning walk but no other damage although Im yet to check the garden fences

It was low tide when I was there so I didnt see anyone out,  and Ive not seen any sups out for ages now.

I am sitting and waiting. Nice sky with 30 mph gusts today. the Saturday should be ok and 4 days of rain. March has been impossible.

30-35mph here which is about my limit for a leisure flight.

I used to go to that but I started getting gimbal issues and I think we aremore susceptible to gimbal damage at those rates.

Some of my older drones will struggle with the gimbal at -90 degrees but the new birds have been OK especially if you keep the camera around 0 degrees.  Not what you need for mapping,  but for a leisure flight it's been fine.

That's good to know. Mapping isn't the majority of what I do. It's boring but it's paying for the drone.

Ive not done as much as you but I always enjoy making maps,  but then I jut love maps in general.

Maps are great if you are mapping something with character. I like doing 3D maps. Some of the programs allow the gimbal to shoot at 90 and2 oblique angels. The drone does two perpendicular grids and If you are shooting a building with character you can create a beautiful 3D model with the shots. Shooting historical landmarks like this is awesome. Then you can load web ODM which is free and it will process the pics and create maps and models. That's fun. Maps of parking lots don't do much for me. Some of the scenery you shoot would be awesome in a 3D model.

You make a good point,   a parking lot map doesn't really feel like a map to me.

But for their purposes they can decide if it needs repaving or patching without having to send a crew. So for the real estate companies it pays.

Hopefully the painting today wont trigger the sky gods again.    At least I got two early flights in today and had a really nice walk in the dark.
