The new property to the left of the boat in the dry dock used to be a boatyard. they couldnt get planning permission to knock it down and build apartments,  until one day it burnt down and then there was no issue with the planning request.

Funny, that. A similar thing happened to an old, disused church in Hadfield. Nice new houses on the land now - at premium prices too. That was quite a while ago, though.

That was the widely-held belief in Hadfield, too.
The new houses can bee seen, top right, on the site of the old church.

I hear you on that.  At least the price of solar panels has come down a bit over the last 2 years.

If they're preserved historical ruins, that's fair enough.  But a ramshackle old building with broken windows, holes in the roof and weeds all around, is just an eyesore serving no purpose.

It depends on the building, but usually I'm a big fan of re purposing old (nice) buildings.
Not the ones that were built cheap in the 60s - 70s but usually the older ones.
