Are there any plans to support controlling the Avata 2 with the RC 2 and without Goggles? I see that the FAQ page says this isn’t possible now, but the RC 2 supports O4, so I’m hoping it’s a future plan?
I love the idea of an FPV drone, but especially with the Avata 2’s improved camera, I can also see many scenarios where I might want to fly it “normally”. Ideally that would not involve buying a separate drone, especially given that the batteries and other parts aren’t interchangeable.
The Avata is not currently supported with the DJI RC2. Notable is the Goggles 3 now support using the DJI RC-N2 or RC2 when paired with the Air 3 & Mini 4 Pro. This is a much-requested & welcome feature. Whether the Avata 2 will ever be compatible with the RC2 is unknown.
One thing to note. There appears to have been a change with the Goggles 3 & the way RCs interact. Previously the RC, be it MC2 or FPV2, connected directly to the drone, independently from the Goggles. This meant you could fly with only the drone & RC. With the Goggles 3, the MC3 & FPV3 appear to connect to the Goggles 3, which in turn passes through the commands to the bird. There is no direct connection from the RC to the bird.
I assume they are pairing to the Goggles 3 via Bluetooth? You will notice the new MC3 & FPV3 are much lighter than their version 2 counterparts, as well as offering greatly increased battery life. The increased battery life is likely because of the much less power-hungry short-range connection to the Goggles 3. This means there is no flying an Avata 2 without the Goggles 3. This may change when the Avata 2 becomes compatible with the Goggles 2/Integra/MC2. |
